Pain

Luna curled up on her side, wanting to cover her ears, but yet unable to, for the umpteenth time in a row. She didn't want to hear it, but she could. Every night. She wanted to scream. Instead, she whimpered pitifully.

She could hear Crow's tortured cries as he tossed and turned in the tight grasp of a nightmare. Luna wanted to comfort him, but nothing she could say or do could sooth the horror he was experiencing. She wanted to take his pain away for him, but she couldn't. She lay there, grief stricken, waiting for it to be over. He soon quieted down, and Luna was able to relax. But not for long.

She could hear Yusei's angry ranting as the argument he had with Roman rang through head once more. He had said so many things that innocent and childish ears like hers should not hear. But she had to, because she was a signer. The pain in his voice cut into her heart as if it were a real knife. But it wasn't. So she silently endured the mental pain it caused her to hear Yusei so angry and out control.

She could hear Jack questioning himself if he was really worthy of the title 'King'. She hated to hear Leo's hero sounding like that, so helpless, as if he were floundering in deep water. But she could not give him a straight on answer. He must figure it out himself. And so Luna once again she was unable to help a friend who had done so much for her. It caused her pain beyond measure. And she couldn't do a thing about it.

She could Akiza's mental pleads for help as she struggled to free herself of the monster that had controlled her for all these years. Her hazel eyes begged Luna to help her, anyone, to help her rid the impression of the black rose witch that had led her down the wrong path all those years ago. But Luna wouldn't help her. She couldn't. And knowledge that her friend was fighting a battle that she couldn't help with hurt Luna as much as it hurt Akiza.

Luna lay there on her bed, tears like liquid diamonds running down her face. What she didn't hear was her bedroom door open, and her twin come in. He sat on the edge of her bed, and wiped her tears away with a gentle hand. His eyes told Luna that everything would be okay. Slowly, the pain faded away, and the great burden in bought with it left her shoulders, and she slipped away into a peaceful sleep where there was no pain.

Leo left his sister's room quietly, as to not awaken her. He had heard his sister cry, had felt her pain. So he gave the silent comfort only a brother can give. And hopefully, everything would turn out alright.
