I walked into the bar. 18 hours of driving did its toll. There was no one in the bar.
"Hello?" I asked into the silent air.
No answer.
"Hello?" I cried a little louder.
A man in his twenties walked out to the counter.
"Sorry mate. Whatcha want?" he asked.
"A beer, please" I said politely.
"Here you-" he was cut off by an old Espeon walking into the bar.
"Hello Dawn," he said gently.
"Espe," she said sadly.
"What's wrong with her?" I asked.
"Depressed. She lost something dear to her. It was 1971, thirty years ago. She was deeply in love with Paul, an Umbreon, and he loved her back. They would run for kilometers and kilometers, to a cliff over looking the town. They were always together.
"Now one bright day in December Paul's owner took him to his girlfriend's house in the next town. She waited for them to return. They never did. She waited for two weeks day and night.
"Many of the town's folk came to her and talked. And Dawn just sat there waiting, watching, watching for her boyfriend, for Paul, for both of them.
"After she waited for two weeks she got up and walked around with one question on her face: "Have you seen Paul?" "Have you seen Paul?" "Have you seen Paul?" One day at four in the morning she left. There were sightings of her everywhere, as far south as Perth and as north as Darwin. One sighting was even in Adelaide.
"It was said that Dawn got on a cargo ship to Japan and searched all over there.
"Three months later she came back home to Kimberly. She went to Sarah, Paul's owner's girlfriend. Sarah looked at Dawn sadly and slowly shook her head.
"Dawn got her friends together and searched a nearby area of bush land that no one dared to got to because of the Luxrays. They went over there and saw a dead Monferno on the road. They followed a track to a motorcycle. It was badly beat-up. John, Paul's owner, laid in an awkward position and his eyes were closed.
"There were paw-prints leading away. They were close together and there were stumbles every so often. But the Pokemon kept running following the tracks.
"About four days traveling a set of large prints covered the smaller ones. A Luxray. But they kept going. If the tracks were Paul's then maybe he was still alive. Soon the Luxray's prints turned away and they were left with Paul's again.
"They came to a small cave. Dawn cried out to see if Paul was there. A very weak whimper came back to her. She jumped for joy and ran into the cave with her friends. They found the poor Umbreon and together they helped him back to the town.
"But sadly when the vets got here Paul had left us. He- he was a great Umbreon-" the man started to cry. I pushed my olive green locks out of my face.
"Paul will never be forgotten. Isn't that right Dawn? Dawn?" the man looked around for Dawn.
"Boy! Come help me find her!" the man yelled franticly. "Now what's your name lad?"
"Trip." I said jogging after the man.
"Well Trip go to the cemetery. She might be there."
I nodded and ran off in the direction the man indicated. When I got there
I immediately saw her, lying motionless in front of a tombstone. I walked to the tombstone and read it.
"John Robert Smithington and his faithful Umbreon, Paul.
John, a lover, son and father.
Paul, a lover and friend to many.
May you be happier and peaceful."
I whipped a tear away. I laid my jacket over Dawn and called for the man.
Me: -crying-
Dawn: -bailing-
Paul: -trying to wipe tears away-
Me: hoped you liked it. Me and my friend Lauren cried so hard in "Red Dog" that our teacher was handing us tissues. Yes we saw it on our Canberra camp.
May: since Dawn can't talk please review!
