The night breeze whipped around the snowflakes that settled on the ground. Lilli shivered but still sat on a hard pile of snow, staring up at the moon. The light glimmered on the snow, making it looks like a field of diamonds and pearls. She closed her eyes as the swirling flakes surrounded her, almost like some sort of vortex.

Chirp. Chirp chirp!

Opening her eyes, Lilli saw a boy, maybe a year older or so, trying to hush a puffin. He had hair that mirrored the moon and violet eyes that glinted with each passing snowflake. A long tapioca brown coat hung just above his knees, and white gloves covered his hands. Matching white boots covered most of his brown pants legs, and a neatly pressed white bow hung from his chest, slowly becoming unraveled by the winds.

Chirp!

Lilli turned her attention to the puffin again. It had a little red bow around its neck and he bounced around happily with eat step of his little mango colored feet. This made her think of her own purple bow that was always tied on the right side of her head, which defined her as a girl after she had cut her now wispy blonde hair in honor of her brother.

It wasn't until the boy turned to look at Lilli that she blushed immensely. Why was she blushing? There was no reason to, after all. He was just a boy with a bird. Gilbert was a boy and he had a bird (well, several, actually) and being around him never made her get embarrassed! Looking back up from the ground, she saw that the boy was now standing above her.

"I-I'm terribly sorry, is my puffin disturbing you?"

"O-o-of course n-not! H-he's fine…" she looked down at the bird. "He's really cute by the way. What's his name?" She tried to shift from the embarrassing first impression she had given. Luckily, he answered, with no comment on her actions.

"M-mr. Puffin. I know it's childish, but I got him when I was only six…" his voice trailed off for a moment and a glint of pain flashed in his violet eyes."

Chirp!

The boy mused, "He said he liked your ribbon."

The girl smiled then looked at the bird. "You're ribbon is quite lovely too, Mr. Puffin."

Chirp chirp chirp!

He smiled, only for a moment, before speaking again. "So what is your name, may I ask?"

"L-lilli…a-and yours?" Darnit…she was blushing again.

"I'm Emil." He bowed his head slightly in acknowledgement then held out a hand, helping her to her feet. She nodded in thanks, then smiled. Not that little polite smile she gave everyone, but a true smile.
