"I'm off, mother!"
"Aww! Bye, sweetie! Have a wonderful first day of school!" an overtly ecstatic stay-at-home mom yells.
Connor, a 10 year old, innocent boy closes the door behind him as he walks out into the cool breeze of the warm autumn air. I am so ready for fifth grade Connor thought. Excited just by thinking about the brand new, upcoming school year Connor hastily walked to the elementary school two blocks away. "Hi Connor!" said the crossing guard that helped students cross the street. "Hi Mr. Johnson!" Connor happily replied back. Connor walked into the bustling hallway. Students greeting their friends whom they hadn't seen all summer, parents helping their children bring their school supplies, and teachers nervous about the start of the new school year. Connor walked into classroom 503, greeted some classmates of his, and sat down at his desk. He took his backpack off his shoulder and took out his brand new school supplies. Right when he was done adjusting all his things, the bell loudly rang. Now, the school year had officially started. A young, blonde woman got up in the front of the classroom and said enthusiastically "Hello, students! My name is Miss White and I am your teacher this year. I am so excited to teach each and every one of you and I really hope that we can all be best friends! Now, how about we all get to know each other's names?" The class silently groaned. It was the same old routine every year. The class would sit in a circle and everyone would say their name and something about themselves, even though the whole class already knew each other. Miss White hastily gathered everyone in a circle and started the introductions. I really am excited for this year. I just know it. I have a feeling this is going to be the best school year ever! I'm going to be the smartest and coolest boy in the class. And I'll also be the teacher's favorite Connor thought. He kept on daydreaming about the whole year when a silence fell over the classroom. "Connor." a girl next to him hissed. "Oh!" Connor said. "Hello! My name is Connor." "Anything else you would like to share about yourself?" Miss White prodded. "No, I think everyone knows me well enough." Connor said back. "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Miss White asked. "Um, a missionary?" Connor said matter-of-factly as if, the whole world should know what his dream job was. "Okay, very good" Miss White replied, "Now, what's your name?" she asked the boy next to him. Gosh, I just really want to be a missionary when I grow up. To save people's lives. To just go out into the world and teach. He dreamed of being a Mormon missionary. In fact, it was all he knew how to dream about. "Okay, class let's sit and get started on our first lesson!" Miss White said. Suddenly, a loud knock on the door sounded. Miss White got up and opened the door. A tall, skinny, boy with tan skin and sandy brown, messy hair was at the door with a large backpack and a grin on his face. "Hi." The mysterious boy said. "Um, can I help you?" Miss White replied. The boy replied back, "I believe I'm supposed to be in this class?" "Oh yes!" Miss White said. "Class, I would like to introduce you to our new student from California, Steve Blaze!" Connor had an unfamiliar feeling somewhere in his pants that it was going to be a fantastic school year.
