The Final Battle: Reversed
Sephiroth looked up at Meteor, stared at it for a moment, then looked down and closed his eyes. "Soon Cloud," he thought, "very soon I will have my revenge..." He had lost everything...his friends, his family, his dignity...and it was all because of that spiky-headed jerk!
"When did I first meet Cloud?" The question, once asked, was easily answered. "It had to be in Neibelheim five years ago...We were there to check out the Mako reactor on Mount Nibel. At the time I was an elite member of SOLDIER and Cloud was the new guy, just a rookie. Who would have known that this innocent looking boy would turn out to be a raging maniac..."
After the slaughter at Neibelheim I had followed Cloud through one trial after another. Now finally, here, on this spot will be our final battle, the decider of fates.
I face Cloud...That damned fool, he seems so confidant, so sure..I have to wipe that smirk off his face, teach him a well deserved lesson. He'll know then not to mess with a being blessed with a soul of fire...he might get burned.
We both attack at the same time. Cloud's Buster sword crashing against my Masamune. We remain locked together...each of us refusing to relent. Adrenaline rushed through me, I made a lightning attack, catching Cloud in the chest. With his remaining energy he slashed my face and then fell to the ground with a sickening thud.
I put my hand up to my slashed cheek and felt blood...I wiped it off my hand. I look down at the corpse...all life was drained from his body. I expected him to jump up for another round, a nightmare creature is never slain that easily. After a few minutes when he made no move I realized he was indeed dead. Surprisingly I felt no joy at this, only sadness. There was no satisfaction in killing him, he who had killed so many, who had ruined countless lives. Now I understand how tortured he must have been. No one actually knew him, even in Neibelheim he had kept to himself. He just snapped one day, letting loose the anger that must have been buried deep within his soul. Tears flooded my eyes as this thought entered my mind...Now you are just like him..."NO!" I screamed and fell to my knees, my tears falling on his cold body.
When I finally got a hold of my emotions, I picked up Cloud's lifeless body and brought him to a clearing. Laying his sword on his breast I buried him...Would I have gotten these honors had he killed me? I looked up into the sky once again, and I saw that Meteor was still in the sky, closer then ever before.
Leaping to my feet, I wondered what was left to be done...Would Holy come to our aid, or was the planet doomed. As I ran foreword a bright light flashed by me. I jumped onto the airship to see what Holy would do to Meteor. Midgar was almost completely destroyed when I reached it...all Holy had done was it had transformed Meteor into a fireball. I banged my fist against the floor, the world was doomed, after all I had done...I looked up once more just in time to see a sea of green destroying Meteor!
After the lifestream had destroyed Meteor I landed the ship. My job was done...The people of the Earth would live to see another day. I walk away from the ruins wondering what I will do now that my job is over, complete. A soft wind blows dust onto the path...obscuring me from view. I guess I'm what you'd call a wandering hero...I come when I'm needed; fix the problem and then I leave without saying anything to anybody. But today I don't feel like a hero...more like a murderer. However all things have the good in them, as well as the bad. Today in my own opinion...I wasn't the hero, I didn't save the day...but I know who did.
Thank you Cloud...
