A/N – I loved the episode last night, especially this scene…I don't think I have the words right, but my VCR (for some reason) didn't tape it, so I can't go back and check. The song is 'Perfect Day' by Clay Aiken (it's in italics). I've never written a songfic before…so I hope you enjoy and please review if you get a chance!
Disclaimer – I don't own any of the characters from Alias (though I wished I owned Vaughn) and I don't own the song Perfect Day by Clay Aiken.
They stood in silence, looking at each other. The plane was waiting, but neither cared.
"Why are you doing this, Vaughn?" she asked, her bottom lip quivering, "My life's a disaster, and now yours is too."
"Syd, even though everything has changed, some things don't change." he replied earnestly.
He didn't have to say it word for word; she understood the meaning of his words. They hit her full impact and she began to cry. She'd thought that she'd lost him forever…
I was fading last night,
Lost out in the cold,
Couldn't see the light,
Then she opened up the door.
Vaughn sighed. There, he'd said it. It'd been eating him inside ever since she came back. Having to lie to Lauren was horrible, but it was the only thing that he thought he could do. He'd forgotten at the time how much he needed Sydney to be his rock; he'd forgotten just how much he'd missed her and how deep a part of him she was. He now knew that he couldn't live without her.
God, losing her the first time was hard enough…
"I don't want to lose you twice," he whispered.
I came in from the dark,
Fell into her arms,
Just in time.
Sydney smiled slightly and rushed towards him, enveloping him in her arms. How she'd missed this; how she'd missed him. For a moment she forgot about everything else and just stayed, wrapped up in his arms. It was the perfect place to be.
And now I know that I,
Have left the past behind,
Won't let it go.
Vaughn wished he could stay here forever with her. Screw the world and their problems; him and Sydney would be fine as long as they had each other. They always seemed to be able to face the world before. He reluctantly reminded himself of the huge problem in their way…his wife. Who happens to be responsible for this stupid mess.
He shook his head, shaking the thought away, as he held Sydney in his arms. That could wait another minute. This moment was just too valuable to him to break.
You could tell me tonight,
That maybe the world would end,
That the sun wouldn't rise,
Or it was gonna rain again,
Just as long as she's in my arms,
It's gonna be a perfect day.
