i did this as a challenge and the person liked it so much they said i should post it. so i did. hope you like it!
Jack-in-a-box.
It was silent. Sorrow hung in the air dripping despair into the room like a wet blanked. It was warm, warmer than it had been in months, warmer than it should have ever been. Even so the chilling sadness drowned everything. Four figures stood in different points each as solemn as the last, no sun would rise to bring fun, fun was gone. Hope was lost he'd given up, Memories couldn't bring herself to remember, Wonder had lost his spark and Dreams didn't want to dream not without fun… never without fun. Not even the moon could bring itself to shine brightly, there was just no point.
The four Guardians lowered their heads in pain- not physical but emotional pain. The kind that won't go away by using a plaster or a long sleep. This would last and it would affect the entire world, fun would become rare now there was no one there to maintain it. Sobs echoed around the room as Tooth tried to stay composed, the Sandman drifted dejectedly: not bothering to supress his tears. On the other side of the room Bunny sat doing nothing just staring into space, lost in the past, the wrongs and rights. How he and Jack had argued, fought and joke with each other. It all seemed pointless now. North's shadow loomed over him, accentuating the darkness of the situation, he said nothing but put a 'comforting' hand on his shoulder.
In the centre of the room, under the globe, stood a white box: no lid. His staff lay next to it waiting to be returned to its owner, but no one could bare to do it, to finalise the reality of the day. The corridors echoed with the ghost of a laugh, the last laugh of a guardian. It had hope and wonder and dreams and memories and fun, but now the laugh had died and with it the last of the light.
The nightmares had nearly vanished now Pitch was at bay. Not gone you can't kill fear just control it. Pitch had been thoroughly thawed and it was all thanks to Jack Frost, if he hadn't had kept Jamie believing they would all be where he was now. If he hadn't had sacrificed himself they would have stopped too. The tortured scream rang in their minds, snap of a neck, the thud of a body and soulless watery eyes. Pale fingers and a breathless chest, nothing would relieve their minds of the sight of their poor white haired companion's last gift-his life. Even though it saved them and the world it was still too big a price.
The children had mourned and cried. No more snow days, no more fun snowball fights, no more extreme sleigh rides, no more Jack Frost. It was all gone no tears could bring him back, no amount of begging, not even Manny could bring Jack back.
Jack always used to joke around in boxes pretending to be a jack-in-a-box popping out at random times and scaring the life out of Bunny. Now that light hearted innocent joke had turned cold and sour, for the box Jack was in is not one people tend to jump out of, now Jack really was a Jack-in-a-box.
