"You don't have to go," the Hatter said as he looked into Alice's eyes, expressing his true desire. Alice stared at him for a long moment before responding "You don't have to stay, either." She held her hand out to The Mad Hatter, knowing full well what his response would be. Hatter stared at her with those rainbow eyes, seeming to read her mind, before saying "I would so love to hat all the people of your world. Wonderland is over-hatted as it is. People there DO all have heads that need hatting, I assume?" Alice laughed, and replied "Oh yes indeed, millions upon millions of people, with heads just perfect for hatting. All they need is the right hatter." The Mad Hatter smiled his magic smile as he took Alice's hand. "Then let us be off."

As Alice and the Hatter came out of Wonderland, they entered the garden at her engagement party. Alice pulled Hatter through the garden to the gazebo where Hamish was still awaiting her answer to life's most important question. Everyone was standing about, whispering amongst themselves, wondering where Alice had run off to, and what her answer would be. The crowd immediately hushed, though, as Alice came walking purposefully out of the garden with the oddest looking man they had ever seen trailing behind her, their hands linked tightly, fingers threading together. Alice stepped into the gazebo, Alice beside and slightly behind her, and addressed Hamish. "Hamish, I've come to a decision. You are not the man I love. I want a man who will go on adventures, think impossible things, and accept me for who I am." With that, she stepped out of the gazebo, and walked through the middle of the guests, who parted for her, as she pulled Hatter through the crowd along with her. They were awestruck by his appearance, but dared not utter a word. Alice took the reins of the nearest carriage she could find, and patted the seat next to her. The Mad Hatter took the seat next to her, and then did something quite unlike himself; he leaned over and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek. Alice, while shocked and ecstatic in her heart, would not let it show. "If you are going to kiss me, at least do it properly," Alice said, before leaning over to the Hatter, taking his hand, and kissing him slowly and passionately on the lips. As she pulled away, and snapped the reins to get the horses moving, The Mad Hatter took her face in his hands, and turned her so that he was looking directly into her eyes. "You've got your muchness back," The Mad Hatter said, before giving her another sweet kiss and turning his attention back to the wondrous new world he had entered.
