FANG POV
Max had always told me about a small creature named 'Demon'. I pretended to believe her about it until we were 15, I mean, she was too old to have imaginary friends. Of course, she got angry and would go for a fly, but I was starting to think that 'Demon' was true.
When we were on our honeymoon, after the flock had grown up, we had talked about Demon again. I had said it was fake, but she got pissed again and left. But this time, when she took off, I heard claws skid against the wood, leaving deep claw marks on the rented beach house. I went to her room, and there was a note on her pillow. I picked up the small paper and read to myself:
Dear Fang,
I know you don't believe in Demon, but he's real. Only I can see him. I don't want to talk about if you don't believe in him anymore, ok? It just makes him mad, and when he's mad, he turns into a lamp. Literally. So basically I can throw him at people. I'll be back with groceries, ok hon?
Max
I sighed and lumbered to the nice leather couch to sit & watch the game.
"Fang, can you go take care of Joey real quick? Demon is restless." Max calls from the bedroom. Yes, we had our first child, but I was getting sick of her excuses:
Oh, Demon this! & Demon that! It was getting on my nerves. And actually, I wasn't gonna take it anymore.
"Why don't you have DEMON do it, huh?" I call back. I hear her walk down stairs and she goes off on me.
"HOW DARE YOU MOCK ME? I WAS THE ONE WHO WENT THROUGH PREGNANCY, SWEETY, AND EVEN THOUGH YOU WEREN'T ALWAYS THERE, DEMON WAS! SO DON'T GIVE ME ATTITUDE!" She pauses and gets teary oh, god. I think silently. She walks to her office and I hear sobbing. I saunter to her office and kneel beside her. She looks up and whispers
"When will you believe me, Fang? When?" I shake my head and say
"I don't know, Maxy, I don't know."
"Happy anniversary mommy and daddy!" our three wonderful children say, sitting on our bed. I roll over and whisper into Max's ear
"Happy 25th anniversary" and kiss her cheek. She rolls over and looks me in the eyes and says
"You remembered this year." I chuckle and nod my head, yes. I got up and grabbed my anniversary present for her. I gave her a diamond necklace, and I bought a doggy sweater for Demon. I take the wrapped gifts to her and let her open them. When she looks at the doggy sweater, she says
"Oh, that won't fit Demon" I frown and say
"Well it's the thought that counts, right?" she shakes her head and whispers
"I guess so"
Max had just died last week, but I kept getting glimpses of a black, wolf – like creature with white jaguar spots. It was always around Max's room.
As I drove to her open – case ceremony, I felt a presence I the passenger seat. When I got there I brushed it off and went to go greet people. Nudge was crying her eyes out along with Angel. I passed by Iggy, who was talking to his wife, Miranda.
I looked into Max's casket; it looked as if she were sleeping. I knelt down and prayed, apologizing for all the arguing about Demon, and when I didn't believe her, but now I did, all the way. I turned my head to the side, and saw the same wolf – like creature that I saw in our house, except it was bowing its head, as if paying respects to her. My eyes widened and I looked around. Nobody else seemed to see him. I looked back on him. He had long, bat – like wings and razor sharp claws. Its Icy blue snake eyes jerked open and he turned his head and looked up to me
Hello, Fang.
Hello, Demon.
Author's Note:
Heyy guys. Demon is just a character I made, and basically, this is a story of how Fang wouldn't believe Max, all her life. Max had found Demon at the School, and Max claimed him. Hey, I might make a sequel if you ppl ask me to, so, R&R :D
