"Cas, no!"

It was too late. The stone angel had reached him. In an instant it disappeared, but the damage had been done.

Dean ran to Cas, but the Doctor and Amy grabbed him, and held him back.

"Let me go!" Dean howled.

"I'm so sorry, but there's nothing we can do," the Doctor choked. Dean cried and Amy dissolved into tears, as Cas stood before them.

"Dean, I-" he began, but was stopped by an unbearable pain. His body, including his clothes began to turn gray. He stumbled forward, a look of sadness, and regret on his face.

"Dean, you and Sam were great...friends," Cas whispered. He held out his hand. Dean lunged to grab it, but Amy and the Doctor tightened there grip, causing him to fall to his knees.

Cas's body was becoming rigid, and he couldn't move forward. His very person began to slowly turn into rough stone. He fought with all his grace, his eyes glowing bright blue with the effort. The others shielded their eyes from the light, but Cas's efforts were worthless.

"Doctor, please, there must be something we can do." Amy pleaded, seeing the strain the angel was going through trying to save himself. The Doctor at her crying face, and then looked down in shame. Dean was paralyzed with fear as he watched Cas turn to stone. His green eyes looked into Cas' blue ones as the brilliant light faded from them. Cas went completely gray.

Amy and the Doctor released Dean as he went limp with grief. The Doctor watched sadly, as Dean struggled to find the strength to look, to admit the nightmare as reality. The Doctor had already seen the man break at the loss of his brother, Sam. The angels had snapped his neck.

Death always followed the Doctor.

Amy knelt down and held Dean. He finally pulled his hands from his head and looked up. Castiel's hand was extended, and his head tilted, a look of peace on his face. He was almost...smiling.
