Of all the engines on Sodor, James likes working with his little brother Percy the best, because James is very fond of his younger brother, and likes to ensure he's okay.
One day however, Percy was assigned to do the mail run.
James, unfortunately, had to work at the scrap yards.
He despised that job.
Not just because he would have to put up with Arry and Bert.
No, it was someone else...
...
"Hello James!"
The red engine groaned.
Edward was waiting with some trucks filled with twisted pieces of scrap.
Don't tell me we're dragging scrap from where it ends up Edward.
First, the scrap will hardly be as heavy as a car, plus you're stronger than me anyway, and second, one of the scrap machines is broken, and they can't have scrap piling up here So we've to take it to Cronk." Edward explained.
"Great." Moaned James, rolling his eyes.
He was not looking forward to this at all.
...
James drew ahead of Edward on the Main Line. He hated the job, and wanted to get it over with as quickly as possible, so he could go and work with Percy.
However, he was in such a hurry, that he didn't pay attention to what was ahead.
"JAMES LOOK OUT!" Shouted a voice.
The red engine looked round- and saw Edward drawing up alongside!
"James you're on the Express line! Dad will be due any minute!" His older brother shouted.
"AH Help me!"
Thinking quickly, the blue engine took off down the line.
...
Moments later, both James and Gordon were in front of the other- or rather, as it was Gordon's line, James was in his way- with Edward filling up on water nearby.
"I must say son, that was some courage you had there!" Gordon beamed at Edward.
"Really? Because all I did was catch up to you and told you to use your sandbox to slow down."
"Well it helped." Replied the bigger engine nonchalantly. "Are you alright James?"
"Yeah, dad, thanks to Edward."
...
James was thankful that Edward saved his buffers from getting damaged.
He also learned that sometimes, it's okay to work with different people.
