It was night time at Tarrytown Airport. Savannah the jet plane was about to depart for a business trip to Egypt, which meant she would be away for a couple of days.

But she wanted to tell Tracy something first.

"Tracy, do you see all the stars?" she asked

"I can see a lot." replied Tracy.

"Well, I'll be flying as high as them soon- but before I do, I want you to promise me something."

"Yes Savannah?"

"Be on the lookout for a shooting star- it'll show I'm coming home."

"I will!" promised Tracy with all her heart.

...

Savannah left soon after. She was to fly for about three hours before stopping at Italy for the night to rest and refuel, then fly on to Egypt early in the morning.

Meanwhile Tracy was excited about waiting for the shooting star.

She told Jay Jay, Snuffy and Herky all about it next morning, then later told Big Jake, Brenda Blue and Old Oscar.

Although Big Jake thought she was being too credulous, they didn't say anything about it, other than it was a wonderful thing.

Tracy certainly thought so.

...

That night, Tracy kept awake, hoping and hoping that Savannah would come home.

But she was disappointed to find out that there was no shooting star that night.

And next morning, her deliveries suffered badly due to her getting little sleep.

But she wasn't an easy quitter.

...

The next night, she looked out of the hanger again, determined that she would stay awake to see the shooting star.

Once again, however, as time passed, she found herself growing more and more deponent.

"Tracy?" asked a voice

"Jay Jay? What are you doing out here?"

"Come on Tracy, it's getting cold out here..." He caught her expression.

"Tracy, what's wrong?"

"I can't find the star." Tracy sighed sadly. "Savannah said to look for the shooting star, and when I see it, I'll know that she's come back home, but I can't see it anywhere. I wonder if it's even coming"

"Well, it's only been a couple of days Tracy. She might come home tomorrow, or maybe the day after. But you shouldn't give up on it just because it hasn't happened yet." Jay Jay replied wisely.

Tracy thought about it. Well, maybe she could be more patient.

"I suppose you could be right. Thanks Jay Jay."

"You're welcome. Are you going to sleep?"

"Yeah-I'll try again tomorrow for a little while."

...

Next night, Tracy decided to look out for the star with Old Oscar and Jay Jay.

Neither of them believed Savannah's story, bit they wanted to spare Tracy's feelings. So they waited out with her to keep her company.

But, just as they decided to go back to the hanger, Tracy spotted something fly through the sky- and it was glowing!

It was the shooting star!

"It's the shooting star!" She cried.

And to everyone's amazement, Savannah had appeared on the runway, as if by magic.

Of course, Tracy learned that if you want something, you shouldn't give up. And Old Oscar and Jay Jay learned to have a little more belief in magic.
