Small One-Shot I thought of while listening to music. Set after New Moon, but Edward never came back. Bella was able to move on and fall in love with another. Not really a definite time set, but a couple years later, Edward comes back to check on her.
My Brown Eyed Girl.
I was hidden behind a giant Redwood, barley peeking around to gaze on the happy family; a little girl and two parents. The girl was small, 2 or 3; Long, curly brown hair, pale skin, rosy cheeks, and a set of the darkest brown eyes. Eyes identical to the ones I loved, but hadn't gazed at in several years. I turned my own eyes away from the girl and towards the parents sitting on a blanket a few yards away. The man was tall, blond and tan, the complete opposite of the woman. She was small, even paler than the girl, but with the same hair and captivating eyes. As I stared my Bella leaned against the man and sighed happily. My long dead heart lurched in my cold chest. How I longed to hold her as such once more. A fragment of a song came to me then, and I sang it softly to her.
So hard to find my
way,
Now that I'm all on my own.
I saw you just the other
day,
My how you have grown,
Cast my memory back there, Lord
Sometime I'm overcome thinking 'bout
Making love in the green
grass
Behind the stadium with you
My brown eyed girl
You
my brown eyed girl
Her eyes snapped open as I sang, her eyes trained on the tree I was behind. I held myself still as I heard her husband ask her what was wrong. My heart broke all over again as I heard her beautiful voice with a negative reply. In that moment, I finally said goodbye to my Brown Eyed Girl and left her life forever, secure in the knowledge that she was in good hands, and loved, if but a fraction of my own for her.
