Hey everyone! This is Arrowwood15! Before you read this, I just needed to make it clear that this is my first ever fanfiction! So, while I appreciate constructive criticism, no flames please!
Chapter 1:
The sun shone brightly upon the village of Droa. The butterflies, with their brilliant hues of blue and yellow, danced in the morning's rays. The crickets ceased their song of the night, the moths flew back to wherever they came from, and the ants barely glanced up from their work to acknowledge the morning's presence.
And, walking among the insects, as naturally as if all the ants and the butterflies and the grasshoppers were people taking a morning stroll, were the villagers of Droa.
The villagers were an…odd bunch to say the least. How were they odd?
For starters, everyone had three or four brightly colored dots underneath both of their eyes. No one really knew what these were for, other than the fact that they were there, and everyone had them. And also, the villagers of Droa had vestigial butterfly wings growing out of the smalls of their back. Women usually had pink or blue wings, while men had slightly larger, green or yellow wings. But there were exceptions, of course.
And also, they could talk to bugs. Enough said there.
That was all that Agitha knew about her people. She didn't really spend much time studying the characteristics of everyone in the village (which was around 25 people, not including the bugs). She was a busy person! She had tea parties to host! Balls to plan!
Being a princess was hard work. Especially being the Bug Princess. While her ant advisors were off signing documents or whatever, Agitha was in charge of planning every social occasion in the kingdom! Ugh.
On this particular day, Agitha had, out-of-the-blue, made the decision to the village and visit (no one would be surprised to see her. 'Out of the blue' was her philosophy for decision making). Maybe have a nice chat over tea with one of her butterfly friends to relieve the stress of being Bug Princess. She could go back to planning tomorrow.
She put on her dress, the one with the pink butterflies on the side (they matched her wings!), tied her pigtails, picked up her parasol, and trotted out of the 'castle.' (which wasn't all that much bigger than every other building in the town)
The buildings in Droa were arranged in a rough semicircle, with the market in the middle of it. The castle was a little bit further away, on top of a knoll near the market. It was quite a quaint little place. As Agitha moved down the path, being careful not to slip and roll down the little hill (not that she had ever had any past experiences with rolling down hills), a big blue butterfly fluttered up to her. Agitha stopped in her tracks and held out her hand. The butterfly perched on one of her fingers, and she heard its melodic voice in her head clearly.
Hello, Agitha. It's good to see you.
"And you too, Toldie!" Agitha's tone was friendly. The butterfly and her had known each other for a long time now.
Heading into the village, I take it?
"Yep!"
Would you mind terribly if I accompanied you?
"Of course not!"
Toldie took off gracefully from her finger and hovered around Agitha, her beautiful blue color flashing in the corners of her vision as she walked the rest of the way down the path with her head held high and her eyes sparkling, confident in the fact that nothing would ever change.
