"I can't do this anymore." Elena screamed, throwing a glass full of amber liquid at the wall, "All I can think about it doing back there and ripping their throats out!" frustrated tears rolled down her face as she paced around the room; her fists clenched at her side. Damon didn't even flinch at the outburst. Instead he simply grabbed her wrist and pulled her into his arms; her head resting on his shoulders. Sobs shook her body as she desperately clung to his shirt. "None of this is on you. You are a vampire this is how you are supposed to be." Damon whispered reassuringly, stroking her hair.
"All I can think about it the blood Damon, all day, every day and I am sick of it!" Her hopelessness soon made way for more anger; her emotions were all over the place. She pushed away abruptly and continued her pacing.
"I know Elena. I know more than anyone." Damon said softly; his sentence met with silence. Elena didn't turn to face him as she considered the words. She knew they were true. He was the one who was always there. That never faltered and she knew she could trust him; more than anyone.
"You're right Damon," She slowly turned to face him, her eyes staring directly into his. His eyes always brought her comfort. "It's you. It's always been you." She spoke more to herself then to Damon. After a small hesitation Damon strode the few steps across the room, until Elena could feel his breathe on her face. They stood like that for a moment, a question in his eyes. Elena nodded, understanding that he wanted permission to kiss her or touch her. He slowly put his hands on either side of her face as he brought his lips down to hers. His touch burned through her, changing her anger into something else. Something pure and beautiful that made her whole body electric. Finally Damon pulled back, his eyes sweeping over her. "You're so beautiful you know? Being around you all the time is hard." Damon whispered, averting his gaze and stepping back, "What does this mean for us now?" Damon hesitated, preparing himself for what he was almost certain would come. After so many years of heart break, he has learnt to build up a front, protecting himself. Usually with Elena is melted away, leaving him vulnerable. "I…" Elena began, before pausing. Damon's shoulders slumped defeated, like he knew what she was about to say, "Love you." She finished letting each word sink in. Damon blinked in surprise, like the words were foreign to him. Elena shuffled on her feet, nervously waiting for a reply. He smiled slowly, a massive grin spreading across his face. It was a smile Elena has never seen before. It made him look young and boyish and… human. Very, very human. Elena thought it was the most beautiful thing in the world.

Damon woke up in Elena's room. Her head rested on his bare chest as she trailed her finger in circles over his stomach. "Morning." Damon kissed the top of Elena's head, smiling.
"Last night was… fun?" Elena laughed meeting his loving stare.
"I thought it was all a dream. I'm glad it wasn't. That would have been embarrassing." Damon smirked, giving her another small kiss, "Was it any different… since becoming a vampire makes all your senses ten times stronger?" Damon practically purred into Elena's ear, giving her goose bumps.
"Maybe a vampire isn't so bad after all." Elena grinned.
