"Don't peek!" Elena chastised Damon. She was walking behind him on her tippy-toes with her hands covering his eyes as they walked into the Salvatore boarding house.
"How am I supposed to peek with your hands covering my eyes Elena?" Damon shook his head. Elena could practically feel him rolling his eyes at her. The house was completely empty and quiet as they made their way to dining room. Elena led the way, only occasionally causing Damon to collide into walls. "Would you watch where you are going?" Damon laughed, rubbing his shoulder where the corner of the wall hit him. She mumbled an apology, "Okay. We are here. You can open your eyes." Damon instantly followed Elena's instructions; curious about what she has planned. He paused for a moment taking in everything around the room. On the dining table as a large chocolate cake. The cake read "Happy Birthday Damon Salvatore" in blue icing. There was also a small present wrapped in silver paper and a bottle of champagne with 2 glasses. "How did you know it was my birthday? I tried to keep that under wraps." Damon faced Elena, raising his eyebrow questioningly.
"Oh you know I just asked around." Elena said coyly, laughing at the vampire, "Do you want some cake?" Damon nodded sitting down. Elena cut 2 large slices of cake, poured 2 glasses of champagne and sat down opposite the vampire, raising her glass. "Too Damon, the birthday boy," Elena winked, "I hope there are many more to come." Damon smiled at Elena's toast; clinking his glass with hers and taking a long drink. For a while Elena and Damon just talked in the confortable way they always do, eating there cake and drinking more champagne.
"You know, this is the first birthday I have celebrated in 120 years." Damon said, finishing off his cake and pushing back the empty plate.
"Really?" Elena's eyebrows shot up in surprise, "Well how about you open your present, then we will head to the grill and keep this party going?" Elena passed the present to Damon. For a moment the vampire admired how beautifully it was wrapped; having not received a present in such a long time. He finally tore it open revealing a small velvet box. "Are you proposing?" Damon smirked at Elena.
"Just open it." Elena smiled, rolling her eyes. He did as she said. Inside was a leather bracelet with a small silver pendent hanging off of it. Damon lifted it up carefully examining it. The pendant was in the shape of an angel. "It's kind of like a protection pendant. It means-I hope-that you will have a blessed life." Elena shrugged seeing the question in the vampire's eyes.
"Thank you." Damon said honestly. They both looked at each other saying so much without saying a word. The silence stretched out before Elena shook her head.
"I-Umm, want to head to The Grill?" Elena stuttered; flustered by Damon's stare.
"Sure." They both stood up heading for the front door. Elena reached for the handle but before she could open the door Damon grabbed her and pulled her in for a hug. At first she was shocked by the sudden turn of events but slowly she returned his hug, putting her arms around his neck.
"Thank you for this. For everything today." Damon whispered into Elena's ear, pulling his arms around her tighter.
"Anytime." Elena grinned, returning his hug just as firmly.
