Everything in Yang's body hurt.
Her arms, hands, feet and legs felt as though they were made of molten lead. Although the wagon she was wheeling behind was not so heavy when she first started, it now felt like a burden on her hands. Yang looked down at her arms and saw they were covered in various scratches, bruises, and blisters. Although it hurt, she had to press on. She just had to know…
Hours ago, Yang discovered a broken picture of a figure that may have been her mother. Yang never really knew her mother all that well, but she had to know what. When her father left for an emergency meeting at Signal Academy, Yang got a small red wagon and put Ruby in the back. The small toddler sat in the back, wearing a small grey shirt with her hood and cape covering her head.
"Where are we going?" She asked very sleepily, as it was well past her bed time.
"We're just going on a little walk." Yang said, lying to her half- sister's face, which she hated to do.
At first, everything seemed to go okay. When they started to move, Ruby quietly and peacefully drifted off to sleep. However, the more Yang walked, the more apparent it became it was a bad idea. The sun was starting to set when Yang entered the dark forest and the temperature dropped almost instantaneously. Yang was wearing short clothes and her hair was tied into small pigtails. Yang also kept getting hit by branches or fell after tripping on a rock. Although it hurt the eight year old to the point of tears, she got up and kept on moving. At this point Ruby had curled into a ball.
"Just a…few…more…" Yang said, almost breathless from the cold and all the bruises and scratches she had sustained in her journey. Then with a small gasp of breath she fell to her knees, one hand still clutching the wagon.
Yang at this point was now gasping for breath, her expedition exhausting her to no end. Even her face was starting to hurt from all the scars she received, thanks to the trees. She heard the sound of her breath, the sound of the crickets, even small little Ruby sleeping peacefully in the wagon. She also started to see her own breath from the cold.
"Ha…ha…g-gotta…gotta…k-k-keep…" Yang's own voice sounded foreign to her as she huff and puffed for air. A thought crossed her mind to just simply give up and turn back or just fall to the forest floor and sleep.
No. She had come too far and hurt too much to give up now. Suddenly she felt power surge through her veins and the cold vanish. She now felt strangely warm all the sudden.
"Moving!" She finally finished her sentence before she resumed rolling the wagon forward. She felt a strange sense of power and warmth spread across her body, giving her much needed adrenaline.
"D-don't worry Ruby, we're almost there…"
From that night forward, whenever Yang was injured or determined to get a goal done, she felt that strange power and warmth roll over her. Her beautiful lilac eyes turning to a vicious blood red.
AN: I finally decided to do a canon RWBY story. This was based on a picture from weissrabbit on tumblr, showing Yang unlocking her Semblance for the first time…
