A Good Day
A/N. For now, this is a oneshot of bughead but if I'm inspired to write more, it might expand.
Keep in mind that this is my first ever story so it might not be the best.
She woke up with a start, Betty Cooper had been doing that a lot lately and today was no different. She quickly got out of bed and dressed in her usual preppy style with a sweater and a crisp shirt underneath. She ran downstairs to catch breakfast before she left, hoping to get out of the house unnoticed. This however failed. Just when she was about to open the front door and sneak out a voice was heard:
"Leaving so soon? And without saying goodbye?" Alice Cooper studied her daughter with an intense stare. She wasn't about to let her sneak off to the Andrew's house to spend even more time with that Jughead Jones, sure she liked him and he was good for her daughter but after school and all weekend was enough!
Betty brain was scrambling to come up with some excuse to leave early, coffee with Veronica, early morning cheer practice mandated by Cheryl. Yet nothing came to her. Finally, she said
"I have to go make the last edits for this week's issue of the Blue and Gold, mom. It's printing this afternoon and it has to be done before school."
"Alright sweetie, have a nice day." Alice said not buying her daughters excuse. And a minute later she knew she had been right when she saw Betty sneaking into the Andrew's garage.
Betty knew her mom probably hadn't bought her excuse but it didn't matter, as long as they mutually pretended they both didn't know she snuck into the neighbor's garage each morning to see her boyfriend before school. Of course they could always use the blue and gold office but people were starting to figure out that they were always there and now it was more like everyone's living room with Veronica Storming in coffee in one hand, designer purse in the other, to talk to betty about some new highly important matter. Or Kevin, reading a book or magazine, even Archie had found his way there for a quiet place to practice his guitar.
And so they ended up in the Andrew's garage where no one bothered them, even Archie who lived in the house had the good sense to give the sometime alone. This was the time they used to lay together on the couch with him stroking her ponytail, and her listening to his heart beating in his chest, giving her a sense of stability. Of course that wasn't all they did, sometimes they did homework and sometimes a sweet kiss good morning turned into something that made the both simultaneously wish they had better control of themselves and that they were not just steps away from the ears and eyes of their friend and his dad.
After a long and boring school day they both sat in the Blue and Gold office, both typing away at their computers and occasionally talking but mostly just enjoying each other's presence.
They would the walk home to together only separated until they both had had dinner in their respective houses. Jughead would then sneak over to Betty's by climbing in through her window like he had done the day he had first kiss her. On that day he'd had trouble getting out the words to say what he felt, instead he had just kissed her. Today was different, instead of stuttering and stumbling on his words he told her how beautiful she was and how much he loved her. She smiled back up at his him and told him he was the best thing that had ever happened to her and that she would never stop loving him.
They would watch a movie on Betty's laptop, sometimes paying more attention to each other than the movie. Jughead would then have to sneak back into the neighboring house and they would both fall asleep counting the minutes until they would next be in each other's arms. Until then, dreams would have to do.
