Remember me, remember me
'Cause I'll be with you in your dreams

- Hanson.

"George," Molly Weasley's soft hand caressed her son's cheek. "Honey, wake up."

Sleep slipped away at the sound of his mother's voice. His eyes met hers and for a moment he wondered where he was.

He felt raw and couldn't remember falling asleep.

He felt lost.

And then, his gaze met hers, and the redness of them reflected everything back to him.

His heart broke for the millionth time.

"I don't want to."

Another day went by.

"George," Charlie Weasley's firm hand tapped his brother's arm. "Buddy, wake up"

The red-haired boy rolled over.

His eyes remained shut, stopping reality from sinking in.

"Leave me alone."

And yet another day.

"George," Ron Weasley's uncertain hand patted his brother's arm. "Mate, wake up"

A painful sigh escaped the lips of the sleeping man.

Consciousness was torture and sleep was bliss.

And another one was gone,

And others after that.

All made into yesterdays,

Rejoining the one that failed

To make George see the rising day.

"George."

No hand. No touch.

No beckoning to greet the sun.

The covers lifted and the bed moved.

A well-known presence.

George turned to face the intruder and a sad smile broke his lips when his eyes caught a familiar stare.

"Hey." His voice was hoarse and low.

"Hey yourself."

A dearly missed smile, alike the one that died in its reflection when his world crashed.

"You're not really here, are you?"

Similar features said it all. And George wondered why he never cried before as a tear streamed down his face.

"I miss you." He breathed.

"And to think that everyone thought I was the sensible one."

A smirk he forgot he too could do.

"Why are you here?"

"I'm here to help."

"You can't, you're gone"

"That's just it knucklehead, I'm not."

Confusion and distress.

"I saw you fall and I failed you."

"No, George. It was just time for me to go."

"But why?! Why you, why then, why not—"

"Don't ask why. Nothing will change even if you do get your answers."

"How do I go on living when the better half of me is dead?"

"It's not."

Tears of anger and tears of pain.

"The better half of you lives on because you are alive. Because I'm still here, I'm the reflection in the mirror and the voice in your head. As long as you remember me."

"I do! I remember you, everything reminds me of you."

"No, what you do is hide, what you do is grieve endlessly."

Dead embers accused embers' death.

"Wouldn't you? If…wouldn't you, too?"

"And would you leave me be?"

Heavy silence and loss of words.

Understanding came at last.

"I'm sorry."

"Don't be. If you're to make it up to me, you have to wake up."

"Will I see you again?"

"I'll be with you in your dreams as I'm with you in your heart and forever present in everything we shared."

"We never said it to each other but—"

"Now, now! Don't go all Ginny on me."

A smile for a smile, for a new found peace.

"I love you, Fred."

Another night went by

And hopeful dawn took the stage

Smiling with the knowledge that George

Finally today found his way home.

"George," Molly Weasley's soft hand caressed her son's cheek. "Honey, wake up"

Sleep slipped away at the sound of his mother's voice. His eyes met hers and he knew where he was.

He felt calm.

He felt complete.

And as he gazed at her worried face, he could hear his twin's words echoing in him.

It's time to move on

And George's broken heart begun to mend.

A long lost smile to greet the day.

"I'm up, Mum"

Never to be the same...

"I'm up, now"

But willing to heal.
