Written for round 3 of the OTP competition (prompt: baby pink)

Too Much Pink

The spell Hermione had just performed left Ron with his mouth open. He was staring at her wand, and then the baby pink glow that was appearing in front of her as if he'd been slapped in the face.

Pink? But it was supposed to be blue! That's what Hermione had told him.

"Hm, well, I guess I was wrong," Hermione said, and there was no hiding the delight in her voice. "It's a girl."

Ron didn't say anything. What was he supposed to say? He would prefer a son? Hermione didn't seem worried; as if she would have been happy had it told her they were having a Hippogriff.

"Sorry, Ron," Hermione said, noticing his expression. "Did I get your hopes up?"

The pink mist had disappeared now, but Ron was still staring at the same spot. Hermione waved a hand in front of his face. He blinked.

"Sorry, Ron, I shouldn't have said anything."

This time, Ron finally spoke. "Er, it's alright."

"Is the fact that we're having a girl going to bother you?" It was the first hint of concern in her voice.

"No."

"Ron?"

"I just… well how do I deal with a girl? With a boy, I could take him out to play Quidditch, take him to matches. Talk about all that blokey stuff you know? But with a girl…."

"Why can't you take a girl to play Quidditch?"

"I can, but they…."

"They what, Ron?"

"Hermione, I could barely talk to you like a proper girl for years."

"So?"

"So, how do you expect me to be… to have a daughter?"

Hermione smiled, coming over to wrap her hands around his waist. "Are you worried?" she asked him.

"Yes."

"Ron, you're going to be wonderful. I know it. Girl or boy, you'll be amazing."

Ron let out a breath he hadn't realised he'd been holding. "You really think so?"

Hermione nodded, kissing him. "Yes, I do."

"Well, does it matter that I bought something the other day?"

Hermione pulled away, looking at him curiously. "Bought something?"

Ron took out his wand and Summoned a package. "I'd been saving it for today, when we found out. I was in Diagon Alley with Harry and I just…" He turned pink as he passed the package to her.

Hermione opened it, and upon seeing what was inside, she smiled. "Oh, Ron." She held up a tiny outfit of yellow and green.

"Is it too small?" he asked.

"For me? Yes. For our baby? No."

Ron beamed. "It's not pink, though."

Hermione shook her head. "Trust me, once everyone finds out we're having a girl, there'll be too much pink. This is perfect." She threw her arms around his neck. "I can't wait for the next five months to hurry up!"

Ron kissed her cheek. "Me neither," he said. "A little girl will be just perfect."

I hope you all enjoyed it! Reviews would be much appreciated.

Also, if you'd like me to write you a fic of 600 words or more, please send me a PM with a list (I like more than one) of pairings/characters and a list (again, more than one) of prompts. I'll happily write it for you!
