Not Seeing Kara

Spoilers: Act of Contrition
Summary: Lee Adama can't look at Starbuck and see a woman named Kara.
Disclaimer: I don't own Battlestar Galactica. It makes me happy, though. I do, however, own the ideas contained in this fic.
Lee Adama can't look at Starbuck and see a woman named Kara. He can't see how pretty she is, or how she just wears her sports bra sometimes no matter who is looking. He looksbecause he can't help it, but he does not see. He can't even call her Kara in his head. She is Lt. Thrace or Starbuck, nothing else.
There are many reasons why Lee can't see Kara. He is the CAG and she is his best pilot. In the Viper cockpit, she is always Starbuck. Even if he could see her as Kara, she would not be Kara there. Outside of the cockpit on the flight deck and in the briefing room, where she could be Kara, she is still Starbuck. She is a Lt. and he is a Captain and there is no fraternization within the ranks, even though the human race needs to start having babies.
That is another reason he can't see Kara. He is afraid to start thinking like that, and it is very wrong. Kara loved his brother and his brother loved Kara, and they were supposed to be married. Lee thought he might have been in love with Kara, too, but he didn't allow himself to think like that. Kara was his brother's, as much as she could be anyone's, and Kara was not meant for Lee. Lee was meant to be on the outside as they loved.
Lee is afraid if he sees Kara, he will fall in love with her again, and he can't do that. He can't because he is the CAG and he can't because of his brother. Kara's fianceƩ. His father's son.
Lee Adama can't see Starbuck as a woman. He can't see Kara Thrace. All he can see is his best pilot, Lt. Thrace, callsign Starbuck.
