Catch Him
Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto!
A/N: the title was on my mind ever since Itachi fell, and Sasuke just STOOD there…but I couldn't decide on how to elaborate that. This was supposed to be brotherly love, but uchihacest was too much fun to turn down.
Summary: His mind was screaming for him to reach out to his brother. Don't let him fall, it screamed, don't let him fall, don't ever let him fall!

"Sorry, Sasuke," Itachi said, smiling, "This is the last time."
Sasuke's mind reeled with the force of that simple gesture. It was startling—that smile. He hadn't seen it in so many years, and he saw it now, in a place where he had expected it least. Why? What? How?
Two fingers pressed against his skin, sending jolts of pain through the younger male's body. At first he thought Itachi was injecting killer chakra into his head—but then realized it was just anguish at the touch that he had craved every single night, the touch that he loved and hated in equal measure. A gasp escaped his lips, unbidden, as Itachi fell towards him. Memories flashed before his eyes, memories of sweet kisses and sweeter touches, whispered promises of immortal love, the bumbling sensation of secret happiness.
Itachi. His brother, his love. His enemy, his devil. His hero, his savior. His monster, his demon.
He thought he was going to kiss him. He really, really did. He anticipated it, had played the scene where their lips would be reunited over and over again in his head. It'd start as the barest brush of lips against lips, a hello. Then his brother would properly kiss him, molding their mouths together, dragging a tongue over his lower lip for entrance. Sasuke would open up, and his warm cavern would be invaded by his brother's wet appendage. They would kiss, just like before. There would be a reason to let Itachi live. The whole nightmarish thing would have been an innocuous, misconstrued event, and the happy siblings would go back to Konohagakure to live in peace.
But Itachi didn't kiss him. There was no explanation, just a heartbreaking sentence…and he fell.
Catch him! A voice in Sasuke's head screamed. He couldn't let him fall. Not Itachi! He was invincible, he was grace personified, he was perfection! Itachi could never—must never, ever fall!
Catch him, so catch him you idiot, don't let him fall!
His mind was frozen. Every nerve in his body was still tingling in anticipation for the kiss that would never come, or the death stroke that would put him out of his misery. Every cell in his body was tuned to Itachi's presence, his fading life force. The light in his eyes was so dim, so frighteningly dim. He missed Sasuke by less than a foot…his forehead hit the wall, and Sasuke whimpered as he smelled in the after rush of air his brother's scent.
Itachi…
Don't let him fall…please…catch him, please…
But his body was frozen. Frozen like the smile on his onii-san's lips as he slipped into death, frozen like how he'd wanted his heart to freeze, frozen and useless, incapable of stopping the pony-tailed male from sliding to the ground.
This isn't right…he shouldn't die like this…don't let him fall...please...
But Sasuke couldn't do anything. Sasuke wouldn't do anything. Because his brother was the enemy, and Uchihas did not mourn for their enemies.
And just like that, Itachi was dead. And just like that, Sasuke had won.
