Your Betrayal

Ch. 1 a long road to home

Bella's POV

Carlisle wrung out his hands as he stood in front of us. All of us anxious and antsy from his sudden call for a family meeting. I sat down between Edward and Alice on the leather couch. Boxes littered the once clean floor of the Cullen household, all of which were no surprise to any of us. Nessie sat in front of one of the boxes, not meeting anybody's eyes. She was now "seven" but her appearance contradicted that. Nessie had long limbs, like those of a model, and a slim figure. Bronze curls cascaded down her back onto her waist. My daughter had the most beautiful, brown eyes, which were filled with tears under dark lashes. "As you know, we are moving away from Forks, Washington. Our new house resides in a town called Lima. In Ohio." Carlisle said, looking down at us.

"And we're not telling Jake." Alice blurted, getting straight to the point.

"Good thing, too. Those mutts are nothing but trouble." Rosalie sneered in her honey-sweet voice. Her ice-cold facade softened when she looked at my daughter. "It would cause too much of a heart break."

Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain. Pain for Jacob. My best friend.

"We can't!" I felt compelled to say. My throat felt tight, how could we? After all he's done for us. The pain wasn't for that, really. No. It was for that little, tiny gloating sensation. Jake wouldn't marry my daughter.

A pale hand covered mine. I glanced up to meet Edward's soft gaze. "Hey," he said, kissing me. "It'll all be fine, love." I nodded, more for his comfort than my understanding. It wasn't fine. It wasn't. No more Charlie, no more wolves. No more Billy, Sue, or Seth.

No more Jacob.

"So when are we leaving?" Esme suddenly asked. Her heart-shaped face was shadowed with concern. "Everything is packed and the U-Haul is on its way." Vampires using a U-Haul. I would have found that funny a month ago. But as of now, it seemed anything but funny. Esme had spent the past few weeks packing, taking her time. Whenever we'd ask if she needed help, she'd shoo us away. She wanted to say goodbye to the house. Goodbye to Forks.

"Strange..." Jasper suddenly said, leaning against the doorframe. He hadn't spoken all morning. "This is where," he glanced at me, "alot has changed. Where all of our lives, whether or not we chose, was affected." he offered me a polite smile when my eyes widened. Had I been a burden? "And we're leaving." he shook his head. I never would have thought Jasper of all people to be fond of a town like Forks.

His twin rolled her eyes. Rosalie always had to be on the side that Jasper wasn't on.

"Yes." Edward agreed, smiling at me. "A lot has changed since we moved here. For the better." he glanced over to our daughter, who continued to sit still on the floor. Jacob had been the only thing she could utter since she found out about the move. It had been the same thing going on in my mind. Poor Jake.

"Hell, it's not that bad, Nes." Emmett said, sitting next to her on the floor. "I bet you'll have a lot of fun in...Lima?" he glanced up at Carlise. He shook his head, smiling anyway. "I bet it's more interesting than it sounds."

Alice shuddered from beside me, "It better be. There might not be a decent mall in miles. Miles!" she frowned.

"Well," Carlisle said, closing his eyes. "Let's get to the airport. Our flight leaves in 45 minutes."
