Emma sat alone on the staircase, pressing her face against her folded arms as she tried her hardest not to cry. Her boyfriend, Ricky, had just broken up with her. Over text. How manly.
All she wanted to do was curl up in a ball and cry. Jessie had tried to talk to her but Emma knew it would just turn into a story about another one of Jessie's failed romances.
She saw Luke turn the corner towards her but she chose to ignore him. He took a seat on the stairs next to her and said nothing.
Usually Luke would tease her but this time was different. This time she was crying. Emma never cries!
"Whats wrong?" He finally spoke up.
No response
"Whats wrong?" He repeated louder, even though he knew she could hear him.
Again, she said nothing.
"Ems?" He said gently, placing his hand on her shoulder.
She sat up straighter, looking at him with tear filled eyes.
"Ricky dumped me." She said before breaking into sobs.
Luke didn't know what to say. He may fight with her but he still cared about her. Even if it was hard for him to show it.
"Hey...It's okay." He whispered soothingly.
"It just...hurts so much!"
"I know ems, I know."
He wrapped his arms around her and she allowed her head to fall crooked against his neck.
"I thought he loved me." She said miserably.
"Emma, no 15 year old boy really loves a girl."
"Then why did he tell me he did?"
"Because he wanted in your pants." He answered, wrapping his arms tighter around her.
Even though she didn't want it to be true, she knew it was.
"But why is it so hard for me but so easy for him?" She sniffed.
"Because he's an asshole! One day, probably sometime soon, he'll wake up and wish he still had you. He'll want a second chance but he won't deserve it. He never will."
She sobbed into his chest, effectively making him uncomfortable. Not that he was comfortable from the start.
"Emma..." He said in disbelief awkwardly rubbing her back.
She pulled away from him, no longer crying but tears still running down her face.
"Why don't we watch a movie?" Luke suggested, trying to distract her from her heart break.
"Okay...let me get my phone first." She said, heading up the stairs to her room.
"Oh and Luke?" She added, popping her head around the corner.
"Yeah?"
"You're a really good brother."
