A Dad's Dilemma

Spoilers: Season 8, Threads

A missing part of the scene where Sam and Jacob are sitting in the commissary talking about Pete.

* means Selmac*

/ means Jacob talking to Selmac (silently)/

"Is everything okay?" Sam asked her father.

" I am not that hungry" he answered putting his fork away.

"You've been pretty quiet" She's concerned.

"I'm fine" Jacob says taking a sip of water.

"Dad.. It's been two hours since he left and you havent said a word."

" I did so".

" 'He seems nice'?"

" I believe that's three words"

"I am going to marry him" she says.

"I know. I just met him. What do you want me to say? I know how happy he makes you and that's all that matters to me."

"Okay" she nodded.

"Selmac relly liked him." * Liar!* / Shut up Selmac./

"Selmac?"

"Yeah and he's a great judge of character." * That's correct. Don't forget it.*

"Look,Sam. I'm tired, it's been a long day. I think I'm gonna turn in early." Jacob got up.

"You sure nothing else is wrong?" she asked worried.

"Yeah. I'll see you in the morning".

"Goodnight."

Jacob walked in the corridor towards his quarters.

* You know, you're a liar* / How so?/

* You lied to you daughter. I don't like that Pete guy. He's creepy. And you lie to yourself. You know as well as I do that he's not going to make her happy.*

/ What am I supposed to say? It's her choice./

* You're her father! It's your job to protect her!*

/ I can't tell her who to marry. Look, Pete's decent guy. I could only express my concern if he was a jerk or something./

* But he is! Called me 'that thing!' You know there's another man in her heart.*

/What do you mean, Selmac?/

* You're not blind, Jacob. I'm talking about O'Neill. You know that.*

/ Yeah. But there's still nothing I can do. It's her life. Not to mention military regulations./

*Yes. You know, you Tauri seem to think that we are callous and uncaring, yet WE allow our people to follow their hearts. Even when in war.*

/ It's not so simple. The regulations are there for a reason. There are people who would take advantages. /

* O'Neill would not. * / Of course not. But they can't make exceptions. /

/Besides, he's too old for her. / * That is irrelevant. I'm sure they would find a way. Where there's love, there's a way*

/ That's not quite correct. /

* But you know I'm right. I didn't live for 2000 years for nothing, you know. Talk to her.*

Jacob had reached his quarters and turned in with mixed thoughts. Selmac was right. He had to talk to her.

A/N I'm not very familiar with the Tok'ra but this came to my mind as an explanation for Jacob to change his mind. Not technically of change but you know what I mean :)
