A/N: I was going to upload the next chapter of "Paradise Found" today. That was before I found out about the death of Maddie Blaustein, Meowth's VA. I decided to write this story as somewhat of a tribute, as I always did like Meowth.
Disclaimer: I don't own Pokemon.
Future
The night was cold and dark. A gentle breeze blew, ruffling some of the leaves on the trees. The grass gently swayed in the wind, not making a sound. There was not a single cloud in the sky. A full moon was shining over the vast field, the stars playfully twinkling nearby.
Some of the grass was temporarily flattened by a figure walking across the plains. This figure was a cream-colored feline, with a black border surrounding the inner parts of his ears. The tips of his feet and tail were brown, and he had a coin on his forehead. He walked on two legs, unlike most felines, and he also spoke the languages of both Pokemon and humans. Normally, he would make jokes and be a funny cat to be around, but his heart was in turmoil right now.
It all started when his human friends revealed their true feelings for each other. They would hug each other frequently, often followed by a kiss or two. Sometimes, they would even go on dates with each other. Now, they were engaged, and their wedding was going to be in a few weeks. The cat wanted to be happy for his long-time companions. However, he realized something important.
Time would pass, and the wedding day would eventually come. After the wedding would come their honeymoon, which would most likely be followed by pregnancy. As the children grew, so would their parents, and then there would be funerals...
The cat didn't like to think about these things. However, everything that he saw seemed to remind of the days that would inevitably come. The grass reminded him of one of the Pokemon owned by his male companion. The wind made him recall how his female companion wanted a butterfly Pokemon so badly. And the stars...
To extend our reach to the stars above...
He lay in the grass, looking up at the sky. The grass and wind gently caressed him, as if trying to reassure him that everything would be all right. As he stared at the full moon, he let his mind wander before coming to one final conclusion.
His human companions wouldn't live forever.
But, he was determined to make sure that they stayed with him to the end.
And nothing would ever change his mind about that.
