My first memory... The only thing I remember from before.

Blackness.

It was dark out, not a single star showed up that night. I was sleeping in my crib, two other figures were lying next to me. I don't remember their names, their faces. I felt warm, secure, whoever the two silhouettes that were lying next to me were, I knew they did not want to harm me. I had cared for them, known them. We were brothers, I'm pretty sure. I wish remembered. All I know now, is that I was comfortable, content and happy in that crib. So very happy.

But that feeling did not last long.

The cold winter wind stormed into the small room through the window. A person, no, a creature climbed into the little room. A monster which I had never seen before. It was wearing a black hood that covered it's face, it was moving towards me. I could sense the malicious intent from a mile away as the monster approached my crib.

I screamed, the monster stopped in it's tracks.

It had been slowly pulling out a veapon when it approached me, but as my scream echoed throughout the building it stopped. It looked side to side, seemingly nervous. After a short while the monster regained it's composure and started moving towards me again, this time much faster. The two figures next to me seem to have woken up, they were now screaming as well. I could hear voices from the outside the room, there were people running toward our room.

But it was too late.

The monster had swiftly picked me up from my crib, I was thrown over it's shoulder as I screamed and kicked desperately. The two figures I was with were left behind. I was carried out through the window, the cold air hit me like a wall. I didn't know back then, but that was the last time I saw my brothers.

"Hey! Watch where you're going!"

Oh, I had been lost in my thoughts again. I hurried past the angry monster that was still screaming.

The street was busy and cramped, the smell of soot and gas filled the noses of the monsters that walked past. The critters that hid in every corner of the alleys were out on the hunt for food. The city had not always been like this, I have heard many rumours of the "good old days" when this city was one of the fanciest, most influential cities in the underground. Where all the rich monsters lived, where all the important people came to discuss buisness. But when the king descended into madness there was only trash and poverty left behind in the once thriving city.

I was on a mission, apparently someone had taken a hostage. A young monster girl had been held at gunpoint by a thug. A thug that just so happened to have a pretty sweet bounty on his head. This case was nothing special, I just needed to catch the guy, save the girl and receive the pay check. As I approached the thug I noticed that the scene had gathered quite a crowd. At least fifty monsters, including the one I bumped into before, had gathered around the criminal. He was screaming, demanding a ransom. The girl on the other hand seemed to be in shock. Geez, what an amateur. I was supposed to believe that he was a "great threat to society"? God, criminals nowadays...!

Well, at least I was getting some easy money.

Or so I thought.
