The Cave

He had known that it was wrong when he had joined the Dark Lord's forces. It was one of those intense gut feelings that told you instantly that what you were doing was wrong and would probably end badly. He had pushed that feeling away and to the back of his mind where no one would find it. The Dark Lord could not think that he was anything less than loyal.

He knew why he was doing this. He was doing it for her, he would protect her even if it meant going against his every instinct. Even as he had shattered all their shared dreams when joining the Dark Side while she remained fighting for the Light.

Those broken dreams were what kept him going, he would protect her no matter what. He would be her guardian angel. She would live and not just survive. He was her invisible soldier, one she no longer believed in but he would be there ready to protect her at a moment's notice. He would do anything for her but that would remain his secret as it had been for so long.

He had seen his opportunity when the Dark Lord had requested the use of Kreacher. It had obviously been something important by the expression on the Dark Lord's face and he had taken the opportunity to return later and retrieve the item. Kreacher had been willing until Kreacher realized exactly what his favourite master intended to do.

He had taken and drunk that foul liquid that made him see those horrid memories he held and had kept far from his conscious mind. Their return almost driving him crazy with the absolute pain that had come with watching everything he hated once again. He remembered the raids, all the innocent blood spilt, he remembered the horror and betrayal in her eyes as he told her that he was now a Death Eater, he saw everything that had ever haunted him in his short life.

He had ordered Kreacher away, to destroy the Horcrux, and get one step closer to destroying the monster that was starting a war. Kreacher had looked reluctant but had finally left after he had used what little magic he still held desperately onto to force Kreacher to obey his orders. He saw Kreacher clearly attempting to fight his orders but he was bound tightly by what his master had ordered him to do.

He knew what he was fighting for, unlike his brother who barely noticed the war going on around them and still remained stuck on frivolous things like Quidditch. He often wondered who was truly older between the two of them. Sometimes he was jealous that Sirius could cling onto his childishness as he did while everyone around him grew up.

He looked at the eerily glowing walls of the cave that would soon become his tomb. No one would find him here. His sacrifice would not be in vain.

The Dark Lord would be defeated.

He would not be there to see it, but he believed that someone would step up and kill the monster for there was no other way to win.
