The word was submission

Selene looked straight ahead, her whole mind focused on steering through the streets, though she had no fucking idea where she was going. Michael was looking at her; she could tell from the corner of her eye, but she didn't stop to explain. There was just nothing to say.

When in doubt, concentrate on the task at hand. That was how she had always operated as a Death Dealer. Don't think. Just survive. And at the moment, the task at hand was to find a safe house to stay during the day. Sunrise was coming. She could smell it.

"Where-"

Selene turned a sharp left, leaving Michael to struggle in his seat. She said in a clipped tone, "Put your seatbelt on," and he did so obligingly. Yes, he was so obliging. He had never questioned anything she said. His first question had been, "What the fuck is going on?" not, as most people would ask, "Who the fuck are you?". She wondered if he asked him to jump off a bridge and to just 'trust her', if he would. Poor naive obliging Michael, who was going to be hunted down by both sides of night. She wondered if she ordered him to call her "Mistress" if he would do it. This little...boy, for lack of a better word, had more power than Viktor ever had in centuries when he had been just reborn. If he were trained...

But no. At heart he was still the nice normal doctor she had first met. He had fought Viktor, yes, but that was self defense, not cold blooded murder.

Not what Selene did every day.

"Where are we going now?" he finally asked.

(15 min)He liked her, and assumed that she liked him. She believed he would defend her to his death. It made her pity him for being so innocent. Creating the hybrid... that was part curiosity on her part, despite what Lucian had thought. It would've been nice to tell him that what Lucian thought was true, but the world didn't work like that, and Selene didn't work like that. She had outlived love.

"I know a place," Selene said. "No one will find us there."

Michael smiled then. Poor obliging Michael. (20 min)
