Patty stood quietly at the entrance of Shanan's tent to let her eyes adjust. She couldn't risk waking him up and getting killed. It was hard trying to keep her breathing quiet when she was so nervous just being this close to him. She held her breath and tiptoed to his bag. As carefully and quietly as she could she slipped the stamina potions she had spent the whole day making into it. She also refilled his weapon cleaning supplies.

It happened so sudden she didn't have time to react. The cold steel of his blade was on the back of her neck.

"Don't move."

He sounded serious.

"Shanan. It's me, Patty." Her voice desperate.

She was amazed by his skill. Just when she thought he couldn't get better.

"I know who you are." He sheathed his sword and plopped down where he was sleeping.

"Then why did you almost cut my head off!" She rubbed her skinny neck thankful to be alive.

"I thought it would be fun to mess with my weekly midnight visitor."

Patty narrowed her eyes and was thankful the darkness hid her blushing cheeks.

"So you knew this whole time? You don't seem like the joking type."

Shanan smiled and it struck Patty that she didn't get to see those that often.

"Can't really joke around when you are a leader of a rebel army."

Patty looked away feeling stupid for saying so. She didn't even stop to think about all the responsibilities he had. "Guess not."

"That's why it is so refreshing to have you around, even though I may not show it."

Now Patty was really blushing. "Yeah right. Everyone thinks I'm useless."

Shanan looked mad at her. "That's absurd and you know it. What you do for those orphans, the smiles you put on everyone's faces, those stamina drinks you make. You help out more than you know."

"I'm just trying to do my best to help everyone out. I'm not too good at fighting as you know."

"Well how about you start training with me. Then you can stop doubting yourself and I'll get to see you more often."

Patty grinned. "I'd like that."
