The Announcement
As Lily Potter sat down at her writing desk, she could help but smile when she saw the single rose placed there. And when she lifted it to smell it, she couldn't help but look for the guy with the flyaway hair and glasses. The guy who alternately made her furious and tremendously happy. He was Lily's husband James Potter, and he flashed her one of his trademark smiles before walking over to her.
"Who gave you that?" he asked quizzically, trying to hide a smirk.
Lily rolled her eyes. "Some guy, I think he has a crush on me."
"Really?" James asked. "I might need to have a few words with this guy."
Lily nodded seriously. "And when you do, tell him to brush his hair for a change."
James laughed giving up their little game. "Even when I do, it doesn't help. Those dang Potter genes." He remarked.
Lily smiled mischievously. "Yes, those are dangerous," she said mildly.
James picked up on Lily's expression right away. "What is it?"Lily looked down, suddenly shy. She wondered how he would ever react to the news she now carried. But she loved James, and she knew that he would make the best of it. Digging deep for some of her Gryffindor courage, Lily looked up to face him. "I'm pregnant, James." She said quickly.
James' mouth opened in a giant O, and he paled slightly. "Are you sure?" he asked ina strange voice.
Lily nodded. "Absolutely."
And suddenly without any warming, James pressed his lips to Lily's in a passionate kiss. Moments later, they broke away breathless.
"So I take it...you're happy about it?" Lily asked.
James nodded and grinned. "Of course! I'm going to be a dad! Wait till Sirius hears this!"
Lily burst into a smile of her own. "I'm so happy to hear you say that. I know that this war makes it a dangerous time to have children."
"But it's right for us," James said. "And while I'm standing, I will never let you or our baby be harmed. War or no war."
Lily kissed him again. "You are going to make a spectacular father," she said.
"And there will never be a greater mother than you, Lily. I love you,"
"And I love you."
