I turn to Jacob. His eyes meet mine for a moment, his brown eyes gleaming. I smile and look up at the sky. It surprisingly wasn't raining. Jacob put his fingers gently on my face as he kisses my forehead. Imprinted; I've never actually known what it meant. But I'm glad I've been imprinted on, and by someone as special as Jacob. Finally, I'm almost sixteen. I'll be able to date Jacob without any problems. Or at least I hope so. My father is a bit disapproving toward Jacob... I don't understand why.
I curl up in Jacob's chest and sigh. He's so warm and welcoming; you can never help yourself around him. "So can you, um, enroll in my high school? As Jacob Wolfe?" I add.
Jacob smiles. "I don't need to go to your school to hang out with you. But if that makes you happy, then I will." He stands up and offers a hand. I take it and jump back on my feet. He doesn't let go of my hand as we walk to my parents' cottage.
My mother was sitting on the front porch steps, reading a book. She looks up and smirks. "Jake, not a surprise seeing you here. Want to go inside and eat something?" she offers. In an instant, she's in front of me. "How about you, Nessie?"
I shake my head and grin back at her. I look up at Jacob and back at my mother. "Where's daddy?"
"He's out hunting with your Aunt Rosalie and Uncle Emmett and Jasper." She sighs. "Why?"
I don't bother to ask why she nor Aunt Alice are with them. Instead I shrug and look down. "Jake and I are going to see Grandpa Charlie."
My mother nods. She looks at Jake with a straight face. "Keep her safe," she says. She turns to me and hugs my tightly; the feel of her cold skin sends a shiver down my back.
I look at Jacob, who was rolling his eyes. I laugh and pull my mother away, taking both of her hands. "We're always safe."
Jake nods. "Those three trackers aren't alive anymore, Bells." Without another word, he grabs my hand and we begin walking toward Forks. After we are out of either my mother's or Grandpa Carlisle's sight, he turns to look at me. "Can I ask you something?" he asks, a bit hesitantly.
I take his face with my hands and look into his eyes. "Anything."
"What if... you weren't my first love?" He takes my hands from his face and looks down.
I shrug. "That doesn't matter to me." I think little of it. Who was his first love? Oh, scratch that.
Jake looks up at me with eyes full of sorrow. "She is your relative." Relative... couldn't possibly be Aunt Rosalie or Alice.
Oh, I see. "My mother?" I whisper. I remember looking at my mother's pictures. There was one of my parents with Jake. My mother was still human. They did kind of look good together, but heck, what do I know?
He nods. His head drops and his hands let go.
"Jacob Ephraim Black, listen to me." I lift his chin up and wait for him to look at me. After a few minutes, I sigh and give up. "I love you and nothing can change that." I hug him tight, feeling his arms lift up and sqeeze me tighter.
He turns around, his body facing the direction it was in before. He takes my hand and smiles.
I smile back as we start walking again. We eventually reach Grandpa Charlie's house. He just came back from work, and he's getting out of his car. He spots us as he turns toward the house. He walks toward us. "Jake, Nessie, you two never seem to stop growing." He laughs. Typical Charlie greeting.
Jake always seems to look past that. "Nice to see you too, Charlie."
