AN: This is my take on Tonks' last moments. I hope you like it.

Tonks' Last Stand

The final battle had begun, and what happened today would affect the Wizarding World forever. Nymphadora Tonks Lupin was very well aware of this fact, but she was there fighting nonetheless. As an auror, she was trained for moments like these and she didn't let fear creep up. At least not for herself.

Tonks was so incredibly fearful that her husband, Remus Lupin would be killed. Their romance came at the most unexpected time, but she knew it was the right thing. He might be a werewolf, but despite that she loved him passionately and could never let him go.

Only days ago Tonks had given birth to their son Teddy, and he was very nearly the spitting image of his father though he was a metamorphmagus like she was. Their son was such a ray of hope in a traumatic and dangerous time such as now. She knew that she was fighting for a future for Teddy, one where he wouldn't need to grow up in fear and danger. She just hoped that Harry would find away to defeat Voldemort for good. They were all counting on him.

Tonks made her way through Hogwarts alongside Ginny Weasley with her wand raised. Jinxs were flying thick as they both fought the onslaught of the Death Eaters. Ginny shot another jinx towards a crowd below.

"Good girl!" said Aberforth Dumbledore running forward. "They look like they might be breaching the north battlements, they've brought giants of their own!"

Tonks tried to tamp down the fear that was cresting. "Have you seen Remus?" she asked.

"He was dueling Dolohov," shouted Aberforth. "Haven't seen him since!"

That was all it took for Tonks to lose her composure. Dolohov was so very dangerous, and she couldn't bear to not be fighting at her husband's side.

"Tonks," said Ginny. "Tonks, I'm sure he's okay---"

But Tonks couldn't trust in that she had to go.

Tonks ducked as another curse was hurtled her way. The caster was none other than her Aunt Bellatrix, one who hated Tonks not only for having a muggleborn father, but also for marrying a werewolf. Bellatrix was so very dangerous, and Tonks knew she couldn't lose her concentration for one second. But the bad thing was that her concentration was sorely lacking because only feet from where she was standing, Remus was still entrenched in a fierce duel with Dolohov.

She couldn't help but steal glances at her husband worriedly. Remus himself was very pale, and wore a severe expression of fear and concern. She knew he was upset when she arrived, but he knew that she couldn't leave him.

Suddenly she saw a burst of green light out of the corner of her eye, and looking in fear and shock Tonks watched Remus fall, his eyes falling into an eternal sleep. Tonks heart felt like it was shattering in a million pieces, and she ran to Remus' side. Upon taking his hand into hers, Tonks confirmed what she already knew; he was dead.

Tonks lapse of concern, however, gave Bellatrix the opportunity she was waiting for. "Oh, now isn't this touching. Crying over your dead werewolf!" Bellatrix taunted, pointing her black wand at Tonks' heart.

"He was a far greater person, than you could ever have hoped to become. His being a werewolf didn't hinder him, but made him even more special. You may kill me know, but Remus won't be forgotten. And neither will I," Tonks said bravely.

"Pathetic," Bellatrix rolled her eyes. "You and your filthy family never had what it takes to be truly powerful and follow the Dark Lord."

"Proud of it," Tonks said smiling even when the green light finally consumed her.
