"Clara! Clara, come here!" Jonathan William called over his shoulder through the quiet house.
Jonathan heard footsteps coming up the front hall and his wife, Clara William, stood before him wearing her pink bathroom, which she was clutching tight, and green bathrobe. Her blond hair fell down her back.
"What is it Jon?" Clara asked concern in her light brown eyes.
"News about Hogwarts. The war's going to start," Jon said in an undertone, so not to wake his daughter.
"Are you going?" Clara asked. Concern was filling her eyes. But Jon knew she would let him go.
Jon was just about the reply when a tiny voice came from the stairs.
"No! Daddy! You'll get hurt!" Kyla, the William's daughter, stood at the top of the stairs in her long light pink night gown and her long light blond hair was messy. She was holding her favorite teddy bear, Bruno.
Kyla bonded down the stairs and slammed into her father. Jon hugged her, he wanted to savor the feeling of warmth and love around him. There would not be any for him at the battle.
Jon bent down to hug Kyla tighter. She was so small, nearly eight.
"Kyla," Jon's voice was soft and calm, but he felt sad thinking of leaving his daughter scared.
"I have to go. We all want He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named to be gone. I want to help."
"But daddy! You'll get hurt! You'll be like Mr. Weasley! The one you brought stories of when you got home last year! With the werewolf!" Kyla's high pitched voice was panicked now. Jon held her tighter and said in her ear,
"I won't get hurt."
Kyla looked up into her father's face. Jon's blue looked back at her brown.
"Do you promise? Do you promise to be here tomorrow to put me to bed? And to be happy?"
"I promise, love. I promise. "
Being at the battle was frightening. Jon felt horrible that he said that to his daughter.
He was right in the middle of it all. He was in the fighting group of the Remus Lupin guy. There were death eaters all around them. Why were there so many?
Now they were sending curses at them! Jon ducked out of the way and sent jinxes back. He even did a killing curse at a point. But it was feeble, and only knocked a death eater off her feet.
And then there was Bellatrix. Jon never really fully understood who she was until he saw her. Evil. He turned toward her just as a death eater sent a spell at him.
The spell was green.
Jon only had time before he died to think,
"I didn't keep my promise."
