Sara POV-

Run, run, run. I run as fast as I can, but I just can't catch up. Each time I get close to coming anywhere near her, she turns a corner and is lost again. Oh, I see her up ahead! Tegan, hold still! I'm coming, wait up! My pulse increases as I break into a sprint, try to catch my sister. She turns another corner, and soon I round the bend as well. I lose the feeling of ground under my feet, and now I'm falling! About to hit the groun- Aagh! I wake up panting and sweaty from a horrible nightmare about Tegan leaving me. My sudden outburst has awoken my sister, my big spoon, Tegan. She sleepily scrunches her nose and wakes up some to see what's going on.
"Sar? What happened, babe?"
"Baby, I…had one of those dreams again. One of those dreams where I chase and chase after you but you always seem to get away," I whisper, feeling small and vulnerable. I'm still breathing hard, and I feel like I might start hyperventilating if my pulse keeps steady at this rate.
Tegan sits up reluctantly and wraps her arms around me. I feel safe with her holding me close and her head on my shoulder. "Sweetie, I'm never going to leave your side," she says before kissing my neck tenderly. I relax a little, but somehow I start crying anyway. My pulse spikes again as my heaving breathing become sobs.

She scoots over in front of me and positions herself sitting cross-legged. She pulls me close and lets me cry into her neck as she holds me and rubs my back. After a few moments, I've calmed down a bit, and she sways slowly and starts humming a tune. She mutters the lyrics softly, and I relax into her hold.

"'Cause you could find yourself lost out in this world, and I would find a way to get back to your side."

I wrap my arms around her and listen to her sing this song like a lullaby to me. "Tee, I love you, and I don't know what I would do without you." My words are quiet and jumbled due to the state I'm in but she holds me tighter and says, "I love you too, Sar. I promise I'll never leave you, because I need you just as much as you need me, probably more."

She releases me and pulls back to look at my tear-stained face. She's smiling at me sweetly, but her kiss is even sweeter. I kiss her back, totally calm at this point, thanks to her.

She breaks the kiss, and I smile back at her. "Thank you, Tegan, for making me feel better." Her response is just another smile and a shrug as if to say, "Don't worry, it's what I'm here for." She lies down, and I follow suit, taking up my erstwhile position of little spoon. She wraps her arm around me, and I snuggle into her. She leans forward and kisses my neck then whispers, "I love you, Sara. Sweet dreams." I smile and find her hand on my belly then interlock our fingers.

"I love you, Tegan. I'd be lost without you." She gets comfortable, and I feel so warm and safe as I fall asleep knowing that the girl I was searching so desperately for has been right next to me all this time.

Author's Note— sorry I haven't updated any of my fics. I really want to start writing Tie My Tourniquet again or maybe start a new fic. It really all depends how my workload for school goes this semester and also on how many projects I start. I just wanted to write this little oneshot because I had the idea when I was listening to the song "New York to California" by Mat Kearney. I reference the lyrics, so maybe listen to the song so you can hear the whole thing. Thanks for reading the fic c: I'll try to update more…but I really suck at doing that, so we'll see how it goes. Oh yeah, also changed my pen-name to my old URL on tumblr because my fanfiction was the first result when you googled my name…and I'd prefer if my friends or parents didn't accidentally stumble upon my incestuous smut. So now I'm under iswinteroveryet…yeah.
