"And that's why adults drive cars," five year old Adyson Sweetwater finished.
Four of the other girls were listening intently. One of the other girls was talking with a red headed boy around the same age. The remaining girl was sitting cross legged at the base of the fort, reading a book. Adyson looked downwards at the smaller girl.
"Were you even listening Gretchen?" Adyson asked.
"Yes, quite the fascinating story Addy," The smaller girl replied without looking up from her book.
"Hey Ferb, did you hear Adyson's story," Phineas Flynn inquired of his step-brother.
Ferb Fletcher simply nodded before returning to the small scale blueprint he had brought with him. His brother cocked his head slightly. He turned to the raven haired girl standing next to him. Phineas gave a simple shrug of his shoulders, and Five year old Isabella Garica-Shapiro went over to the smallest girl and tugged her up and dragged her to a few feet away.
Isabella looked over and saw that Phineas was dragging Ferb over to the same spot.
"Isabella meet Ferb, he's my step-brother, but he doesn't talk much," Phineas chirped.
"This is Gretchen, she's my best friend. She doesn't talk much but when she does she uses really big words," Isabella replied, not paying attention to where she was pushing the smaller girl.
Gretchen stumbled over a good sized rock. She braced herself for contact with the unforgiving cement when a pair of hands caught her. She opened her eyes to see dark blue eyes, under shaggy green hair, looking at her with concern.
"Are you alright?" Ferb inquired with a soft British accent.
Gretchen nodded quickly, and to cover her blush,stooped down to pick up the book she had dropped. Gretchen quickly returned to her spot and resumed reading her book. Ferb smiled as he picked up his blueprint. He was interested to see what kind of friendship he would have with her in the future.
* FIFTEEN YEARS LATER*
"I'm warning you now Ferb, this had better not be one of those insane off-the-edge dates that Buford generally takes Adyson on," Twenty year old Gretchen warned her boyfriend of five years.
"Don't worry love it's not," Ferb whispered into her ear, finally uncovering her eyes.
Gretchen cocked her head slightly as she looked around. A vivid memory came to her mind of two little kids and the push they had gotten from their best leaned against Ferb's chest and gave a small laugh.
"Taking me back to where it all began?" She asked the question softly as he turned her to face him.
His broad smile gave her the answer. Then he pulled her closer and gave her a soft kiss on the lips, which she returned in kind.
