My first attempt at X-Men: Evo fic in a long, long time.
This is, unfortunately, Normal
"Did Alvers just give me the finger?" Scott Summers asked his redheaded companion as they walked into the mall.
"Uh, no, that's just his way of saying hello!" Kitty said, ducking away from the two older teens and walking over to her slightly less respectable friend. "What'd you do that for?" she asked. "You shouldn't, like, bait him like that."
"It's not that big of a deal," he said, rolling his eyes. "It's not as if I attacked him!"
"You're just trying to, like, provoke him and you know he has a temper," she reprimanded, crossing her arms.
"Aw, you're cute when you're annoyed," he said mockingly. "He won't do anything, not with Grey right beside him holding his hand."
"Let's just go inside," she said, exasperated. "And, like, leave Scott alone."
They walked around the mall with no incident. Well, until they were about to leave.
"Kitty, are you riding with us?" Scott called from the parking lot.
"No, I'm, like, riding with Lance," she said. "You can just go on!"
Apparently, while Kitty had been saying this Lance had decided to make rude gestures at Scott, who decided to confront his constant rival.
"What? I said I don't-" Kitty started, then her eyes narrowed and she turned around. "Didn't I tell you to, like, not do that?" she asked crossly.
"What's your problem Alvers?" Scott asked viciously, Jean was hurrying onto the scene, leaving a very confused Kurt in the car.
"Scott!" she urged, grabbing his arm, but he pulled away.
"Maybe you're my problem, Summers," Lance replied.
"Lance!" Kitty protested.
"If I was, you'd make more of an effort to stay the hell away from me, wouldn't you?" he snapped back.
"Jean!" Kitty whined.
"Scott, really," Jean said, trying to get between the two.
"Not in your lifetime, Summers," he said with a smirk.
"Kitty!" the redhead said.
"Lance!" Kitty said, tugging on his sleeve. "Let's just go. You're being stupid!"
"You're lucky that we're in public, Alvers," Scott growled.
"Oh, I forgot you can't use your powers in public," he said with a laugh as the ground shook a little.
"Lance!"
Scott reached for his glasses but Jean grabbed his arm.
"Scott!"
"Jean!"
The ground shook harder.
"Kitty!" Jean said, both women looked more than frazzled.
"KURT!" Kurt exclaimed with a puff of smoke and the smell of sulfur.
Kitty buried her face in her hands as the shaking stopped, and everyone froze, a passerby would think she had burst into tears.
But she had really burst out laughing.
