Jumping in the car

Barely waving to friends

At school

As my mom drives me

Back to home

Where I know that you

Are doing the same thing

And Waiting for me

I jump out of the car

As it's just stopping

Grabbing my bag

Filled with books and pencils

Because of course

We tell our parents

Of course we can focus on homework

While we talk

And listen

And laugh

You're home first

So there you are, in

Your driveway

Near the side of my yard

Teasing me as I rush toward you

Because, as we explain to our parents

Best Friends can't wait

So we stay out

Late

Sometimes even able

To count the stars

Look, you say

That one there?

That's the Big Dipper

And grin

You learned that one at

Boy Scouts

I hear you say

But I just nod and lay back on

The fallen leaves

While not really

Listening

Because already I'm thinking about tomorrow.
