Her eyes opened first in the early hours of dawn. Earlier than she usually get up, but with the first sight she held, she didn't much mind. Owen Harper's eyes closed as hers had been, the covers of his bed over his bare skin as it was over hers. She quickly wished to know that this wasn't just a really good dream.
What happened last night? And how on earth did it lead to this? Yesterday was New Years. Torchwood had had a party because of it and no alien activity. They were let go early to sleep off their hangovers. Toshiko Sato was waiting for a cab, and Owen offered to wait with her.
"The only person worth kissing happy New Year was you, Tosh." Owen slurred. "Suzie would've had something to say about that. God knows Jack would've had to lay one on all of us." He snorted.
"I honestly wouldn't have minded." Tosh replied with a smile. Owen's demeanors seemed to have sobered when he tried to figure out what she meant.
"What person would you have not minded layin' one on, Tosh?" He asked. She noted he took a step toward her, not shuffling or stumbling.
"Well, who's left from the party?" She asked innocently, unable to look away from him. His eyes cleared as easy as water over a brook. It was pretty late at night; the cold air must've helped.
"If you wanna kiss me, just say so." Owen said huskily, his eyes flitting from her eyes to her mouth, which opened slightly in surprise.
"I…very badly…want to kiss you, Owen." Tosh admitted slowly. His eyebrows rose and he softly laid a cold hand on her forearm.
"Well in that case…" He slowly leaned closer to her, and Tosh closed her eyes, coming hesitantly toward Owen, hoping he was not playing a joke on her, hoping she wasn't starting out the New Year being made a fool of.
Soft, tender lips touched hers in the most gentle manner she opened her eyes in surprise. His yes stayed closed until he realized she wasn't kissing him back. He pulled back slightly and searched her eyes. Then she realized he was in his complete right mind, and the taxi was pulling up to the curb in a second. She pulled on his coat flaps and crushed her mouth to his, savoring the taste of beer on his lips and just the taste of Owen. Her hands gripped his arms to keep her balance and she broke the kiss, looking at him.
"I should be going then." Tosh said after the cab honked at her. Owen stared at her and she realized his hands were still on her arms.
"I'll get going with you." Owen replied. He nodded to the cab. She stared back at him.
"Are you sure?" She asked. Owen smiled at her, lifted a hand and stroked her cheek to her chin with one finger, then touched her hair.
"Oi! Get in or I'm leavin!" The cab driver yelled. Tosh smiled at Owen and took his hand, leading him into the car. "Where to?" She was asked. Tosh looked at Owen; his place or hers?
"552 Horizon street" Owen replied. He looked from the drive to Tosh and as the cab began to love, he reached for her and kissed her; Tosh let him pull her body towards him and kissed him deeper. Before she knew it, they were at Owen's place.
She hardly saw the place as they rushed, and the rest of the night was a blur. Not that she minded. It was a blurred night with Owen.
Tosh closed her eyes and pretended to still be asleep when she felt Owen moving about under the covers. She felt his thin finger, warmed from his bed, stoke her cheek. And she groggily yawned and slowly opened her eyes.
"Hey" He greeted her softly, and pressed a kiss to her mouth.
"Hi" She greeted with a smile. "How are you this morning?" She asked, as was her daily routine with him at work. He smirked.
"Well, considering I slept with and woke up next to, an extraordinarily beautiful woman, I'd say my day's going great." He replied. Tosh laughed.
Their pagers dinged. Well, Owen's dinged, Tosh's buzzed since she learned a loophole to the signal. They looked at eachother, unable to process. How were they going to act? What is Suzie or Jack says something? What if Ianto sees them together? Was there definitely more to this than New Years sex?
Tosh turned away and Owen looked after her. It was both a privilege and a heartbreak to see her pale brown skin covered again. God, if he didn't say anything son what was she going to think. He sprung out of the bed, uncaring he was stark naked, and went around to face Toshiko. She stared at him blankly, tilting her chin up slightly so she didn't see all of him. He could see a trace of fear etched in her expression. As if she was used to being this scared. He reached for her face, slid his fingers through her black hair, and pressed a long kiss to her mouth. He wrapped his arms around her and her head went to rest on his shoulder, her mussed hair tickling his neck. He smiled at the sensation.
"What's going to happen?" She asked. He bent his head to glance at her and picked it up again, starting to rock her from side to side. He wanted to protect her from anything that could scare her. Tosh didn't scare easy. He didn't want to be one of those people that still did.
"Whatever will happen." He decided. She picked her head up. "Suzie could make comments, Jack would try to kiss all of us, but one thing I do know I don't regret what happened, with you. And I've got a feeling this could be…more. Turn to something extraordinary."
Tosh grinned and looked down, then away.
"All this time, sort of just, missed you." Owen said. Tosh looked back up at him. "Never did anything about it until now." She nodded.
"Until now." She agreed.
Their pagers sounded again, and knew Jack would be coming to get them if they didn't book it. Owen spun around and searched for his clothes, and Tosh finished dressing, zipping her leather jacket up so no one would notice her clothes hadn't changed. The only thing to change to Owen's appearance was is shirt. He looked at her and noticed her clutching the zipper of her jacket.
"Here, dya want a shirt?" He asked, handing one to her. Tosh glanced at him.
"Thank you, yes." Owen set the rumpled shirt in her hand and let he pressure of his hand on hers rest there for a while, maintaining eye contact. She smiled at him and turned around, quickly changing into the shirt before putting her hair up.
"I don't think my shirt will fit in my bag, I honestly have too much." She joked, trying to find a place forit.
"Leave it, we're in no rush." Owen replied.
They hurried to Torchwood and decided to go in five minutes apart from the other. When Own came in Suzie eyed him.
"Hell of a hangover, Owen. Didn't think you have that much to drink yesterday." Jack noted.
"On the contr'y. I was so drunk I was hitting on Tosh and trying to kiss her." Owen remarked.
"Had to tell him to go sleep it off when my cab got there." Tosh agreed. Jack nodded and let the subject drop.
"Let's look a little farther out from the rift than usual; I'm thinking we're missing something out there." He said. Tosh nodded and started typing. Jack walked past Owen after patting his shoulder and went to talk to Ianto, after that Owen concentrated on his own work. It was a good hour before the beeping started. A disturbance, probably weevils. Tosh pulled it up and everyone pooled around her chair. Jack put his hand on her chair and Owen touched her shoulder with his own, trying to see.
"Whatever it is, it's going down Betsey Avenue pretty fast." She said, and soon Jack shot off. Owen shot off as well but noted that he had wanted Tosh to come with. He looked back to her and she was already looking at him.
"Be careful." She told him and he smiled.
"Since it's you that's asking," He said and she grinned as she turned back to her computer monitor. As Owen went past the open door, he didn't notice a peculiar creature, waiting for everyone to be gone. They slipped past and went unnoticed by even Tosh. Little did they know, that creature would change their lives.
