3:17am

Randy awoke to his cell phone ringing. He grabbed it groggily, "Hello?"

"Randy, it's mom." Elaine said trying to not cry. "There's been an accident."

"Wait, what?" Randy said sitting up in bed. He had been pretty buzzed when they went to sleep but that was gone and now he was awake and concerned. His heart was racing. What do you mean an accident?

"Janine and Lyle are dead," Elaine choked out as she broke down sobbing. "They were hit head-on by a drunk driver. There was an explosion, oh my god they're gone." And she began crying again.

Randy was shell-shocked, he didn't know what to say. The brunette bimbo he was in bed with began to stir, "Baby, come back to bed." She said as she reached out towards him.

He stood up and muted his phone, "You've gotta go. NOW." Then he un-muted his phone, "Mom, let me call you back. I'm going to call Vince, I'm coming home. What about Jordan?"

"I appreciate that honey, thank you. Jordan was at a friend's house. Your Dad went to go pick him up and talk to him. They're not back yet." She said sniffling.

"God mom, I'm so sorry. I can't believe this. I…I'm shocked. I'll call you back. I love you." Then he hung up the phone and yelled at the girl again, "I SAID YOU'VE GOTTA GO. WHAT PART OF THAT DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND?" And he began to throw her clothes at her.

She screamed so profanities back at him, quickly got dressed and huffed out of the hotel room. Randy was still in shock, he wasn't feeling anything except everything at the moment. He called Vince on the emergency line and told him what had happened and didn't give Vince an option, he was going home to help his family deal with this tragedy. He quickly packed his stuff and hustled off to the airport and sent a text to his best friend John Cena to let him know that he wouldn't be riding with him anymore.

By the time Randy got to St. Louis, his parents had brought Jordan back to their house and they were in the process of dealing with making all of the necessary phone calls and arrangements. Jordan was locked in his mom's old room and wasn't coming out for anything. He refused to eat and Elaine was worried about him.

Randy went and knocked on the bedroom door, "Jordan? Buddy? It's Uncle Randy, can I come in?"

"Go away." Jordan mumbled tearfully. "Leave me alone."

"Please buddy, let me in." Randy tried to get in the room. He knew he had a great relationship with Jordan and hoped he could get in there and let Jordan cry on his shoulder. He couldn't imagine being 11 years old, at a sleepover and having your grandfather show up in the middle of the night telling you your parents had been killed tragically.

"NO!" Jordan screamed.

Randy sighed and walked down the hall to his room. He put his stuff in there and headed downstairs. He made Jordan cinnamon sugar toast and orange juice and brought it up to the closed door. He knocked again, "Buddy, I brought you some toast and juice. It's outside the door when you're ready."

But he was met with silence. Randy shook his head and headed downstairs. He shook his head at his mom, "Nothing. No response, no nothing."

Bob patted Elaine's shoulder, "Now just relax. The kid has been through a lot in the last 8 hours. Let him grieve the way he needs to. He's a smart kid, he's not going to not eat forever. Just let him be for now."

"I know Bob, but I worry about him." Tears began to fill her eyes, "Out of all the horrible people in the world, why is it that the good people are the victims in something awful like this?"

Randy hugged his mom, "God only knows. I'm going to go upstairs for a bit." He got up and headed upstairs. As he sat down on the bed, he let himself finally breakdown. And he sobbed for quite some time. He sobbed for the loss of his sister and brother-in-law, he sobbed for Jordan never fully knowing or appreciating just how wonderful his parents really were, he sobbed for his family losing two really great people, he sobbed over never being able to hear his sister lecture him again. Then he cried some more. He laid down and fell asleep, exhausted from all the tears.

When Randy awoke, he felt something beside him. He looked, and curled up in a ball with tear-stained cheeks was his 11yr old nephew. Looking down at him asleep made Randy realize just how vulnerable Jordan was right now. He hugged his nephew close and just laid there, being there for Jordan the way he wanted him to be.
