Chapter 2

Go Back to Your Woods

The solemn atmosphere of Saint Peter's Church has never failed to amaze him. He was never a religious man, not by his own choice, and he also has been in hundreds other churches but somehow this church, this tiny little chapel always been something quite special in his mind. Elijah was alone sitting by himself, if it wasn't for the cold winter, this place must has been crowded by people who lived around there. But after all, Copenhagen wasn't famous for its hot weather. Elijah shrugged his shoulder and bent his head so deep it's almost made him looked like he was praying. He closed his eyes trying to ignore the feeling of exhaustion that pulling him from inside.

"Are you alright?" a young woman dressed in an oversize bright blue dress, tapping his shoulder in worry. Her petite figure was drowned in her large dress, Elijah turned his back to answer the lady. A beautiful small lady, well groomed, Elijah can smelled the expensive lilac flower fragrance from her body. He smiled, and got up in hurry. The woman took a step back nervously making the room so Elijah could stand before him. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to…" Elijah stopped talking suddenly, the lady's familiar face distracted him to saying the words he was trying to say, and he was that kind of people who don't get distracted easily. That face, he swore he had met her before. He tried the put that face with the names in his head. "Adhelin Karensen" Elijah whispered in an excitement tone. The woman whom he seeing on one dark winter hundreds years ago, one educated woman with promising cleverness schemed in her head, but also slick like a fox, a woman Elijah find keen to keep him accompanied at that time. Then he realized everything around him was terribly wrong. He looked at the church's spaces around him and found that everything was exactly as he remembered five hundred years ago, nothing has changed. Adhelin's beautiful pale face was not aged even a day. This must have been his memory, he was in his dark suit that he wore when he slaughtered the young woman in that alley and that poor tourist in the river, he was not supposed to be in Copenhagen, he was in New Orleans, and this was not real.

"Elijah, wake up" Hayley, suddenly appeared beside him, commanding him in distress. "Elijah, wake up" she screaming hard.

Elijah opened his eyes and the pain on his head almost passed him out again, the pitching sound agonizing him almost unmercifully. He was lying on the ground, right beside lifeless body of Tanya Glade, the lady he just killed just a moment ago. Standing not more far than ten feet away from him, Sharona looked down at him, with disgusted expression. She lifted both of her hands and continues to chant some kind of spell.

"It's not like I don't appreciate the invitation" Cami put down her cup of tea and smiled a little. The compound always gave her the cold vibe. The place was so large, castle-like, beautiful, inviting but at the same very intimidating, almost patronizing. Like Klaus. "But, what you need right now is a pack of blood thirsty super soldiers, which you already have" Cami pointed her finger at several men stood not so far from where they seated. "And I don't think I can be so much of help right now"

Hayley shook her head in disagreement. She checked her watch nervously while looking at the gate waiting for the return of Elijah. "No, Cami, actually right now, I think we could really use all hands on deck here, and with Finn still on the loose, I think it's best for you to hang here a bit, at least until we figured out their whereabouts"

"Well, if it means another playtime with Hope, I'd say count me in" Cami tugged her blond hair behind her ear and noticing the nervous behavior Hayley displaying. "Are you okay?"

Hayley stopped touching her watch, embarrassed at the fact that Cami noticed her nervous behavior. "Yeah" she laughed a little, and her head keep looking at the door gate. "Actually," she sighed heavily finally surrendered to temptation on spilling her worries on Cami, After all, she can be considered to be some sort of everybody's personal shrink in this dysfunctional family. "I'm worry about Elijah. He should have returned hours ago. And it's making me feel bad, really bad. Because my husband is out there with our pack, searching for any signs of Finn or Freya, and Klaus out there with Marcel and their men trying to get us out of this nightmare, but all I can think of is, Elijah"

Elijah tried to lift his head, and failed. The high pitching sound felt like bombs that exploded inside his head over and over again, still lying on the ground, he tried to assess the situation but the agonizing pain in his head only getting worse. His mind traveled back to the time where Esther had him captured, only to remind him what kind of monster he really is and all of his unforgivable sins that he can never hide from. All of these centuries he has buried all his secrets, his sins, by displaying a flawless manner of a true gentlemen, depicted a noble man in all of his action, his words. Those secrets were buried so deep, neatly hidden behind that red door, he was safe.

The red curtains swayed swiftly when Elijah passed by, he was stunned, confused of where he was. His mind must have played another trick on him again, just like when he imagined he was in Denmark earlier. He tried to identify the room he was in, it was not so spacious or bright, and there were only couple of candles illuminating the dark on it. He walked slowly and found nothing but a dozen of another candles lit at the edge of the room. Then he startled to see what was appeared across him, the red door. Elijah sighed nervously, realizing that the door is no longer shut closed.

Sharona looked down at him, knowing that her power was so strong because she had lead two covens before, she can take down this powerful vampire, that filthy beast that screaming before her. She had hear the legend of the old undead, the first vampire, if she was still living in the city, killing one of this old vampire must be forbidden, since it will leads to supernatural war and chaos. But here in the river, she lives only by her rules. No one can stop her from killing this monster, no one could.

"How dare you?" Sharona still lift both of her hands in the air, controlling the spell that crippled Elijah to the ground. "Come into my land and killing people like that? You think you deserve an immortal life, you should have rot in hell, you beast"

Elijah opened his eyes, his all-red eyes. He took a fallen oak twig beside him, broke it into two pieces, and tossed them right to Sharona body. Both twigs, pierced Sharona right to her stomach, she screamed in pain and crying for help at the same time.

"You're right, I don't deserve it" Elijah stood up, and smiled while enjoying the fear on Sharona's face when he put his hands on her neck and severed the head from her body.

"Look, I have sent the last men I got, and they just returned. Right now, they are all exhausted" Marcel laid his back comfortably in the long coach. "I am exhausted"

"Either they prefer to join their ill-fated comrades, or they bust their arses and do what I asked them to. Find Finn or that woman who dared to call herself my sister" Klaus crossed his hands, showed no eager to let this problem became any bigger.

Marcel reluctantly signaled Josh who sat beside him by nodding. Josh shook his head in objection but eventually stood up to obeyed Marcel. "I guess a breather is not an option" Josh walked slowly to the door.

"Wait" Klaus raised two fingers, demanding a full attention from both Marcel and Josh. "Tell everyone, I hope they'll bring anything useful when they return here or else. And I promise, they won't like what else" Klaus smirked a little.

"Well then, I don't think what I have here on my bag, will make you feel any better, brother. But then again, I feel like bringing a souvenir" Elijah stood right at the door, smiling to all three gentlemen in from of him. He leaned a little to the side of the door while tugging his right hand to the pocket of his dark coat. His other hand carried a black duffel black, stuffed quite large. "Something I gathered from my stroll in the river" Elijah tossed the bag to floor and let it slipped closer to Klaus' foot. He smiled a little bit more, while watched Klaus opened his present. The severed head of Sharona placed inside, almost all covered with thick blood. Marcel and Josh came closer to looked, and shocked to found what was inside.

"A head?" Josh shouted at Elijah. "Maybe I didn't get the memo, but how is this head supposed to help us?"

"It can't help us, young Josh" Klaus answered calmly, while putting down the duffel bag back to the floor with a surprised look that he tried so hard to hide. He smiled widely. "Well, perhaps it could help us, if it came in whole complete body. I guess, handling one good old witch is too much for you, brother?"

"What do we do now?" Marcel looked panicked when he learned that the heads belonged to the witch that supposed to be their ally. He put his hands in his waist, tried to find an alternate of solution out of this doom that waiting to be happened.

"I always thought charm is your best trait" Klaus looked at his older brother closely. He knew something is different with Elijah now, Rebekah has tried to warn him, but he ignored her. "I imagine, the negotiation was not too pleasant that it has to be ended in such way"

"Or maybe I got bored" Elijah answered with no expression drawn in his face. He walked slowly toward Klaus, and removed his black coat while kicked the duffel bag away from them. "I don't know, maybe I'm bored, maybe I just thought she was nice decoration for the old garage. Or maybe, I think it was a good parting gift…"

Klaus took no time, he can tell, that moment, his brother is no longer on his mind. He punched Elijah's chest and tossed him few feet away behind, Marcel and Josh rushed in to help but Klaus signed them to stay away. Elijah thrown couples of feet away from Klaus to the floor, he stood and looked surprised. He lifted both of his hands, and grinned at Klaus. "For thousand years I have stood by you, defended you, have I not fulfilled everything you asked for, Niklaus? All I ever asked was a hope. A shed of hope for a monster like you..."

Klaus burst another hit to Elijah, and thrown him to the wall far behind. Elijah shook his head, and his eyes turn all dark red at once. "I say, no more Niklaus, I am done with you". Elijah pulled a dagger from his back, one particular dagger that made everyone on the room looked terribly surprised and terrified, the white oak stake. Niklaus felt like screaming, cursing at air, his hand shook terribly for wanted to remove his most precious possession from his brother's hand. In a thousand years, he had imagined shredded, torn, burned into ashes by Mikael, with that very stake, but he has never imagine that his older brother the one man whom he fought with side by side for a thousand year, will be the one on that who hold the other end of that stake. Elijah held the white oak stake calmly. He knew his brother too well, he probably knew Niklaus better than he knew himself. He knew that once Kol returned the stake to Klaus, he must has hide it to the only place people would not think posed as plausible location. The Bayou.

"Brother, gather yourself, what kind of idiocy you think you're doing, claiming me for death?"

"Niklaus, I had lived my thousand years devoting my life for this family, for keeping what remained of human from us monsters, when there were none. Esther was right"

"You listened to the woman who decided to turned herself into the very monster she cursed us into?" Klaus screamed in frustration. "Think of Hope, think of what will she be without her father"

"No, Niklaus" Elijah grinned, shaking his head in disagreement. "I will not taking anybody away from Hope. I said I will no longer can't hold to always and forever" He rotated the stake on his hand, making its sharp end pointed to his chest closely. "Goodbye, brother"

Josh and Marcel stood in horror, unable to move a muscle in their body while watching the terrifying scene before them, Elijah drove the stake toward his chest, Klaus screamed in distress as he tried to remove the stake but then thrown away by Elijah who was trying to drive the stake deeper into his chest. Elijah screamed in pain, knelt at the floor as he failed to keep his balance from the blinding pain.

"Helbred bransar, belaste herte" A dark brunette woman came in out of nowhere, she lift his hand in the air while casting a spell. Elijah watched the girl in disbelief as his neck was snapped brutally by an invisible force. He was collapsing on the floor as Klaus tried to catch him before the stake buried any deeper in Elijah's chest and pulled it out.

"Not the kind of reunion I had imagined" the girl smiled a little. "But very nice to meet you. Brother"
