Nick Burnett. He was special. In all sorts of ways Gordon wasn't. He was compassionate, and had warmth about him. He cared about her. Looked out for her. Carried her. Tall, attractive. They were singing from the same page. He was special. The kind of person you could easily run too.
Gordon had changed. Changed in a way she couldn't describe. The warmth in their relationship was slowly turning cold. He alienated her. No kind words, nothing. The love had mysteriously disappeared. To her knowledge she'd done nothing wrong.
She couldn't remember the last time he said he loved her. Or the last time they kissed. He'd slowly gone from overprotective to nothing. No waiting up, sometimes she'd wonder if he knew she was there.
She thought… a lot. Wondering if she went missing, would he notice she was gone? Would he come looking for her? She simply didn't know.
She'd had this conversation with Nick. They'd dealt with a missing teenager, who'd fallen down and broken her leg. Her parents were frantic, so relieved their daughter was ok.
"Nick… If I went missing, disappeared. He wouldn't notice"
He stood, deep in thought. Watching the parents catch up with their daughter. They were happy at last. Problems were on the way to being fixed.
"I would" He replied quietly.
"Sorry?" Jill asked, not sure she heard it right.
"If you went missing…. I'd notice."
"Really?"
"Yes. I'd notice."
