REVIEW RESPONSES:

Guest: i luv u

Adreeanne Davis: Here you go, honey 3

theoriginalsrizzlesouat1D: Aw, thank you! Read the books again, it's such a great masterpiece uGh. Also thanks for reading the descendants series! I sorta discontinued Return to the Isles but Ways to be Wicked is on hold until further notice so... Keep track on that lol

Shiranai Atsune: I'm a very dramatic person. Also my Adrien Agreste fic is full of happy sappy romantic stuff so this takes away my pain.

AasiyaDaya: Really? I didn't really notice that. Oh well, at least I contributed to the fandom. (I just love Jaron so much he gives me uwus)

Strikestar: Thanks!

GUEST: Here you go, buddy.

KeyMaster25: I think there are JaroGen fics in the Ascendants tag, read them instead because this isn't one

Shiranai Atsune (Guest Version): Uh, no. Not a mistress. Serafine refers to herself as a "King's Reserve" in a sense that she's sort of just like a second option. Basically she's just being dramatic about being in the friendzone.

Shiranai Atsune: You have reviewed twice (thrice if you were the guest) i litterally luv u. Here's part two.

Melissa Waters: Thank you! I specialize more on the OC part of the fanfiction world haha, but really thank you so much for the kind words. You're the kind of reader that gives me the motivation to keep doing what I do 3

Guest: HERE YOU GO, MI AMIGO

brookiebee4: hihi thanks bb 3 Here you go :)

Jaron walked around in the royal gardens, his eyes giving the small marble elevation a quick glance before sighing.

He walked over a sat down on the ground.

"If you were here, you would have known what to do, Ser." Jaron muttered to himself.

"I guess." An airy voice replied nonchalantly, making him whirl around and face Serafina.

He stood up abruptly, his eyes widening at the girl.

"Serafina, it's-it's been—"

"Three months." Serafina nodded in acknowledgement. "Yes, I know. I felt quite distressed after that whole running away thing. That was absolutely pathetic."

"Serafina," Jaron sighed, his eyes furrowing in dismay. "That wasn't pathetic."

"See, that's a thing you would say to a person talking about something pathetic that they did." Serafina smiled sarcastically.

Jaron gave a small chuckle, walking forward. "So, you've changed, huh?"

"Yeah," Serafina shrugged.

Jaron stopped in front of her, taking a few strands of her hair in his hands.

The once dark brown locks that he loved was now a rich blonde, and it seemed to suit her more.

"You look beautiful."

Serafina only looked up at him and shot him a small sarcastic smile. "I'm not here to chat, Jaron. I want my crest back."

He stopped, only pursing his lips as he slowly drew it from his pocket.

"You dropped this," Jaron explained. "on the steps."

"Yeah," Serafina nodded, taking it from his hands. "that was stupid on my part, sorry."

"Serafina, let me explain what I meant that night."

"There's nothing to explain." Serafina snapped, looking up at Jaron with a tired gaze. "Please. Just drop it."

"I don't want to!"

"You should!" Serafina argued back.

"Why?" Jaron asked, his eyes full of confusion and pleading. "Why did you choose me? Why did you love me?"

"I don't know."

"Is it because I was nice to you?"

"I don't know."

"Was it because we were friends?"

"I don't know."

"Was it because I was a street-rat that can give you a life out of the palace?"

"I don't know!" Serefina screamed, her hand landing on his chest and pounding roughly on it. "I don't know why I loved you, and I don't know why I still love you— So, please just stop, okay?"

Jaron blinked in surprise, gazing over at the girl.

His hand pushed a lock of blonde hair behind her ear. "Why don't you know?"

Serafina looked up at him. "If you love someone, you never know why. You just do— and I love you."

Jaron cupped her face, leaning his forehead on hers. "Ser—"

"Sage?"

Jaron and Serafina turned to look at Imogen, who blinked in surprise at the two.

"Uh, I meant Jaron. Uh, I—"

"What can I help you with?"

"Uh, the maid said you wanted to talk to me in your room, but you weren't there so I looked for you." Imogen replied, playing with her braid as her eyes flitted over to Serafina. "I can come back later."

Jaron turned over to Serafina, whose face showed pure heartbreak and traces of a rude awaking.

"Yeah, uh, no." Serafina backed away slowly, clutching her crest in her hands. "I-I got what I came for."

"Serafina—"

"I should go."

"Ser, please." Jaron called out, grabbing her wrist and stopping her. "You still love me, right?"

Serafina slowly turned back, facing him with a soft smile as she gently tugged her hand out of his grip. "I'm trying not to."

And she left.

Serafina sat at the steps, biting her nails as her sisters and her father paced around and discussed what to do.

"Who do we ally with?" Her father finally dropped the heaviest question.

"You're joking, right?" Serafina scoffed, crossing her arms. "Carthya. It's always been Carthya."

"Honey," Her older sister sighed and kneeled down to her. "It's more than just that."

"No, our country is more than just political alliances and who-get-what." Serafina scoffed. "If we break this alliance, we show we are not trustworthy. We are jeopardizing ourselves. Use your brains."

Her father was silent as he took his seat. "Our alliance remains with Carthya."

Serafina sighed, relieved at her success.

Relieved that she had saved Jaron again, because no matter how much she convinced herself she didn't love him anymore.

She always will.

Months later, and Jaron was back in his gardens, gazing at the injury on his leg.

"So, we're at war and the king is sitting here and staring sadly at his limp." A voice hummed out.

Jaron smiled, raising his head and locking gazes with deep brown eyes.

"They told me Gelyn and Mendenwal are advancing from the north and east. Avenians invaded Libeth. I think Imogen's there." Jaron replied. "This is a coordinated attack."

"So it seems." Serafina nodded, tapping her boots on the ground. "They're trying to get to you."

"Through her," Jaron confirmed. "Which is why I have to save her."

"Yes, because you love her." Serafina nodded.

"That's what they think, yes." Jaron nodded along. "It's why they took her."

Serafina chuckled, shaking her head and taking a seat next to Jaron as she ran a hand through her blonde hair. "What a privilege that must be."

"Deny your love for someone." Serafina spoke, facing Jaron. "Does it hurt?"

"I don't love her, Ser."

"Yeah, and I didn't dye my hair blonde." Serafina snorted.

There was a beat of silence before Jaron grasped her hand.

"I'm going to save her."

"As you should," Serafina nodded. "if she is your lady, then her safety is of priority."

"If they took her because they thought I loved her then they took the wrong person, because it's not her." Jaron spoke. "I'm getting her back. She's my friend, and I owe her a debt—But I'm coming home to someone else."

"Amarinda?"

"No," Jaron laughed.

"Did you make a move with Princes Ysevanne?"

"Of course, not." Jaron laughed, shaking his head. "I like blondes."

"…So, Lady Katherine?"

Jaron smiled at the girl, pressing his lips on hers.

Serafina pulled back abruptly, her eyes wide in shock.

"Uh, you know I'm not really blonde, right?"

Jaron laughed in amusement, pressing his forehead against hers and humming in confirmation.

Serafina gulped, stumbling back. "Uh, wow— That's a lot to process."

Jaron only smiled, raising his hand and pressing his lips on it.

"Let me fix us."

"Your duty to the country comes before… whatever this is." Serafina spoke firmly, standing up.

Jaron smiled in understanding, gazing at Serafina with a love-struck look.

"Stop looking at me like that."

"Like what?"

"Like I put the stars in the heavens for you." Serafina huffed. "You don't love me, you just need Imogen here, is all."

"I'm gonna marry you."

"Stop."

"I want you."

"No, you don't."

"I love you."

Serafina stopped, looking at Jaron.

"Don't throw those words around." Serafina spoke firmly.

"But I do," Jaron explained softly. "How do I prove it to you?"

"I don't know." Serafina shrugged. "But this is not something we should be talking about and thinking about in times of war."

Jaron frowned as Serafina faced him. "Save Imogen, Save your country, then tell me to come to your wedding with her. I'll be waiting."

Serafina started to leave.

Jaron furrowed his eyebrows, desperate.

"But, Serafina, I don't love her." Jaron pleaded. "I love you."

Serafina stopped, turning to look back. "No, you don't."

"Serafina—"

"I'm the king's reserve, Jaron." Serafina spoke, turning back once more to leave. "I'm here for you to love, only when the girl you love won't come back. She will, Jaron. Please don't do this to me."

"I want you to love me again." Jaron said, his eyes pleading to her pain-filled ones.

Serafina sighed, giving him once more shake of the head.

"No, you don't."
