I know that in the time it has taken me to write this, season 9 of GA has started. I am going to continue my story as follows as it started, so April never went back home, she never had the pregnancy scare, she and Jackson never broke up.

As she entered Seattle Grace-Mercy West, April felt immediately out of
place. All her friends were doctors here, and now she could barely call
herself a doctor since she lost her job.
"Kepner, surprising to see you here." Miranda Bailey had spotted her from
across the lobby. April hesitated, then crossed to her former attending.
"Dr. Bailey, I'm sort of here as a patient," April lowered her voice to signal
that their conversation was sworn secrecy. "I think…" She paused, then took
a deep breath. "I think I'm pregnant." When Dr. Bailey didn't respond, she
continued, "I'd like an official test, if you don't mind."
"Oh…of course," Miranda finally managed to say. "Just come with me to
the E.R and we'll get started."

Jackson entered the E.R. and was handed a patient's clipboard. He flipped
through it, and started his way over for an examination. Then he saw April
sitting in a chair in the corner, nervously fidgeting.
"April, what are you doing here?" He went over to her. "Did something
happen?" "Oh, no," April insisted. "I'm just…" she paused sharply. "Don't
tell him anything, if you do he'll flip out!" she thought to herself.
"…um, I…" she wavered, then cleared her throat. "I'm just getting a
vaccine, that's all. If I get a new job, I need to be ready for it." Jackson
looked at her, puzzled. "Well, ok." he said slowly. "I'll see you tonight
then." "Yeah, ok." April smiled nervously. Jackson grinned back and
headed back for his consultation.
After an hour of sitting, pacing, and eating dry potato chips out of the
vending machine, Dr. Bailey came back with the test results.
"Well, Dr. Kepner," she said scanning the chart. "It seems you're about six
weeks." April's heart almost stopped. "You mean…" "Yep, congratulations,
mama."
April gasped, jumping out of her seat and clasping her hand over
the surgeon's mouth. "Shh! Please, please don't!" April led Miranda to the
hall, her hand still over her lips.
"Listen to me very closely. No one, and I
mean no one, can know about this. Promise me!"
"Ok, alright. I promise." Dr. Bailey took away April's hand, nodding.
April turned and hurried out of the building, and once she reached her car,
broke down into sobs.
