Harry Potter – Gift of a new life
Author's Notes
I was inspired to write this story after I read Harry Potter & The New Life by SilverAegis
Much to my disappointment, SilverAegis chose to discontinue the story. I loved the way he/she portrayed Lily Potter and her interactions with Harry. Lily Potter will play a major role in this story, and I hope that I'm able to portray her equally well, if not better than SilverAegis.
I welcome constructive criticism. I spell-check my stories before publishing them, but no matter how hard I try, some mistakes always go through. English is not my native language; so occasionally, there might be some grammatical mistakes too. If you do come across any errors, please feel free to point them out, and I'll try my best to correct them.

I do not own Harry Potter the series or any characters within it. I do not seek to profit in any way from this story. It is merely a piece written for personal satisfaction, and others' reading pleasure.
Chapter 2
Harry found himself floating in a void of empty space. The darkness surrounding him was so encompassing that he couldn't even see himself. He wasn't even sure if his eyes were open. Moving his body felt strange to him. He was unable to determine whether or not he was actually producing any movement. There was no feeling of gravity around him. He couldn't tell up from down or left from right. He couldn't tell where his arms or legs were. A feeling of shock coursed through him when he tried touching his own face, in an effort to find his bearings, and was unable to do so. Before he could contemplate his situation, his consciousness slipped away.
He found himself floating in a void of empty space. A moment later, he realized that this was the second time he was here. Going through the motions again, he concluded that he still didn't have a body. Going over his last set of memories, he remembered the chance offered to him by the celestial being. He couldn't help but wonder if something had gone wrong, or if it was all some sort of cruel joke before he died. Before he could do much, his consciousness slipped away again.
Harry came to for the third time, and wondered how much time had passed between his last two conscious instances. He wondered if he was going to be stuck in the void for all eternity. Before long, he noticed something strange. Although he still couldn't see anything, this time something was different. Despite still being surrounded by the endless void, he was feeling comfortably warm. He couldn't help but revel in the first real sensation he had felt since ending up here. He concentrated on absorbing the warmth, and was surprised when he heard someone singing in a very beautiful voice. The voice was decidedly female, but it wasn't clear enough to understand the actual words.
'So this must be what being in a coma feels like', thought Harry, as he came to the startling realization that he was already in his new body, and the singing voice probably belonged to his mother.
The warmth surrounding him seemed to fill his soul, and he couldn't help but fall in love with his mother. He realized that knowing you have a mother, in your mind, is completely different from knowing it in your heart and soul. For the first time, he could feel mother's love, as it enveloped him in a warm cocoon.
He expanded his senses in an effort to absorb more of the feeling, and was rewarded with flashes of memories which were not his own. Going over the memories, he realized that they were the original Harry Potter's memories. He felt his strength slipping away again before he could search for more.
Over the next couple of months, Harry returned to consciousness several times, sporadically. Sometimes he could hear his mother sing to him, and sometimes all he could hear was silence. Over time, the sound of his mother's voice had become clearer. Love, sadness, longing, hope; these were the feelings that always accompanied the songs. It pained his heart knowing that his mother was sad due to his condition, and he couldn't do anything about it; yet, at the same time, it filled his heart with bliss, knowing that someone loved him so absolutely.
With time, his conscious sessions were lasting longer, and he had successfully processed all of the original Harry Potter's memories. Being just 7 years old, there weren't many significant ones. Although, he did learn that he, along with his family, were living at Potter Manor. He has a beautiful younger sister named Viola, who is 5 years old. She has red hair and dark-blue eyes which appear violet at certain angles. He discovered that the original Harry Potter was a hellion, and would often end up making Viola cry, much to the annoyance of the rest of the family. He also learned that Sirius and Remus were regular visitors to the family home.
He knew as soon as he was conscious that something was different this time. He could actually feel his body. His limbs were tingling, like he had ants crawling inside his skin. It took some effort, but he finally succeeded in opening his eyes. He was thankful that the room was dark. Moonlight streaming in through the window was the only source of light. Despite this, it took a few minutes for his eyes to adjust.
During his time in the mental void, he was confident that sooner or later he would regain complete consciousness; yet he couldn't help feeling relieved upon finally doing so. The next step was to get his body to move. He noticed that his mind to body connection was very sluggish, no doubt due to the long period of inactivity his body had been through. He channeled his magic throughout his body to enhance his recovery. It took almost an hour to gain enough mobility to get off his bed.
His room was exactly as he remembered from the other Harry's memories. It was modestly decorated, with a wardrobe which he knew to be filled with clothes and toys, a rarely used study table, and a bed which he had been occupying. All in all, it was well suited to a young child. He looked out his window and gazed upon the manor's sprawling grounds. The pale moonlight illuminating the landscape made for a soothing sight.
He wasn't sure how much time had passed since he came into this world. He'd been eagerly awaiting the day he would get to meet his mother and the rest of his family. He couldn't help feeling nervous about his first meeting with his family. 'Breathe…' he thought to himself, as he concentrated on relaxing. He heard a soft pop behind him. He saw a young house elf standing at the base of his bed. From his new memories, he knew the elf was named Mindy. Mindy was the youngest of five elves serving at Potter Manor, and the one assigned to attend to the children.
"You are finally awake, young master. I am so happy." she said, while tearing up slightly.
He gave her a soft smile, and said "Thank you, Mindy. Can you tell me what happened?"
Mindy was surprised by his reply. He figured it was because of his soft and polite tone. His counterpart, being a young child, had always taken her service and affection for granted, and was often curt or dismissive towards her.
"You got your hands on your father's broom, and went flying without telling anyone. Your grip slipped, and you hit your head very hard when you fell. Your physical injuries were healed within a few days, but you still would not wake up. Everyone was so worried. Mistress has been keeping you company almost every day."
"I see", he replied, "How long has it been since I fell?"
"It has been six months, young master."
"I see."
"I will let mistress know that you are awake."
"Thank you, Mindy."
Harry was back on his bed by the time his mother arrived. She halted as soon as she entered the room. Her eyes welled up with tears as she just gazed upon her son. Meanwhile, Harry too spent a few moments studying his mother. She looked weary, had dark circles around her eyes, and her hair hung limply around her shoulders. He could tell that his accident had hit her hard. Despite all this, he truly believed that the sheer amount of love and joy he could see in her eyes, was one of the most beautiful things he had ever seen.
"Hey mom", he said softly.
Those two words were enough to break the emotional dam that had built up in Lily's heart. She rushed forward and enveloped him in a tight hug. Tears formed in his eyes, and he hugged her back with all his strength. For the first time in his life he felt truly complete. He basked in her loving aura, and took in her scent. He could no longer hold back his emotions, as 27 years of pain and loneliness came flooding out of him in the form of tears. The mother and son pair just sat together in loving embrace. Neither one said anything. Nothing needed to be said.
End of Chapter 2
Author's notes:
[1] Please review.
[2] I know this is a short chapter, but it just felt right to end the chapter here.
[3] Please let me know if the grammar in this chapter is correct. Especially, the eighth paragraph: 'With time…' What I'm mainly concerned about is the tense used in the paragraph. Most of the story has been written in the past tense; however, I've used the present tense when talking about Viola. I felt this was right since Viola is still alive, and the points mentioned are facts, at that point of time.
[4] Truthfully, I'm not completely confident if this chapter is as good as the first chapter. It'd been so long since I updated the story that I really just wanted to push an update out, and get into the flow of writing again. Please let me know what you guys think about it, and what I can do to improve the quality if you notice any flaws.
Thanks for reading!
