Chapter 2

Flashback

Harry was standing in a hall that looked similar to the Great Hall in Hogwarts, except for the missing house table and staff table. The big plane windows that were usually in the Great Hall now hold colored windows that looked like pictures of the most important events in life.

He was moving from his position at the big oak doors to the next window on the right side that contained a picture of him sitting on the three-legged stool with the sorting hat on his head. It was a moving picture of what was normal in the magical world, but instead of a painting, it was created from small colored glass shards like the windows he knew from muggle churches.

"I was hoping the hat would choose something else than Gryffindor," a voice behind Harry said, who jumped in shock and turned around.

"Dad?" Harry asked in surprise. The person in front of him looked so similar to himself just older and like he knew his dad must look from the pictures he had.

"No, I'm your great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- grandfather." The person answered. "No that's not right, it is great- great- great- gre… no wait." And he started again, but this time he looked thoughtful and was counting every 'great' up on hand. "its great- great- great- great-…"

"Stop" Harry interrupted annoyed. "I get it, your a one of my ancestors."

"Yes that would be an easier explanation" he chuckled. "My name is Ignotus Peverell. And we are related through your dad's side."

"So that means I am dead?" Harry asked. Because the last thing he could remember before he woke up in this hall, was that he got hit by the green light of the killing curse.

"Yes, you are," Ignotus said sadly.

"No offense but why do I meet you and not my Parents?"

"Because this is the Waiting room. When you die one of your Ancestors comes here and takes you to your loved ones but first it needs to be determined if you are worth to go to Elysium or if you have to go to the field of punishment. But there are also some that are too afraid and those close to going back to the world of the living as a ghost," Ignotus explained.

"So you will play judge, and then I can move on?" Harry asked slightly irritated.

"No" he simply stated

"What do you mean 'no'?" Harry annoyed retorted.

"You can't move on. That's why I am here." Ignotus started to explain. Even if Ignotus looked like mid-Twente, he talked like some much older. "Are you familiar with the tale of three Brothers that is written by Beedle the Bard? No? Then you should read it, it's a good story and one of my favorites. You should read it later."

"And why can't I move on? That's more important than some fictional story." With every word, he said Harry got angrier.

"The youth is always so impatient," Ignotus said calmly. "To make it short, you can't turn back because of your inheritance."

"What do you mean my inheritance?"

Now Ignotus had a smile on his face. "Well, like I was telling you before you snapped at me. It has to do with the story of the three brothers. They get three items from death. The most powerful wand that has ever existed a stone to return the dead but it's only a shade of their selves. No-one can bring back the dead. And the last one is a cloak that makes you invisible and not even Death can find you when you are under the cloak." He motioned Harry to sit down. "Some people call those items the Deathly Hallows and hallow they are. They dedicate their life to find them and unite them to become the Master of Death, but there is something that no-one knows. Yes everyone can use them, but you have to be a Peverell to control them and youse their full potential because they are bound by blood to our family."

"Okay, so your family has some powerful artifacts some are looking for, what has it to do with me?" Harry asked.

"Our Family! You are my blood, and you are the last living Peverell." Ignotus corrected Harry. "That means you are the rightful owner of the Deathly Hallows. My oldest brother Antioch died without an heir, and the next in line was my brother Cadmus who owned the stone. He took his life, and the stone got lost in time the last living owner of the stone was Tom Riddle."

"Voldemort? I am related to Voldemort! But he is still alive!" Harry exclaimed with disgust.

"Only distantly related, thank God," Ignotus said, laughing about his descendant. "Because he split his soul death doesn't count him as a living being, but because his sole is anchored to the mortal world, he also doesn't count as dead. But now comes the interesting part, because he doesn't count as a living person by Death the Deathly Hallows don't recognize him as their owner. That means the stone and the wand recognized the next living Person with Peverell Blood as their owner, your father James Potter was the first person since their creation who owned all three, and when he died, you became the owner. And that is because you and your father are from my line - like I said before - and we were are the owners of the cloak." Ignotus explains after he took a deep breath he continued. "And finally we can come to the explanation why you can't move on. The owner of all three gains some special abilities and one of them is to trade souls. Every time you die and have someone who would give their soul to Dead, you can return to the living."

"Okay, that's much to take in." A shocked Harry replied. "But there isn't another soul or do you mean Cedric? Did he die so I can come back?"

"This time it is Voldemort himself. You had one of his soul fragments attached to your soul leaching from your life and magic. That is why you had visions and some anger issues. His soul was so broken after he split it four times that after the killing curse went back, some of his soul attached itself to you because you were the only living being in that room." Putting a comforting hand on Harry's shoulder, who calmed a bit down.

After a moment of silence in where Harry tried to understand everything he asked, "But why did I survive the killing curse when I was a baby?"

"You didn't. Lily gave her life that you can live, so after you died, you were sent back because you had Lily's soul to trade. That is also the reason why James didn't come back. He hadn't a soul to trade."

"And why was the killing course reflected at Voldemort? That would make any sense when I died."

"That is a bit more complicated." The older one replied while looking in the distant.

"More complicated? You think what you told me was easy to process. I still don't understand everything." Harry said, but couldn't believe it can more complicated than this soul trading stuff.

Ignotus laughed, then he got serious again. "It's complicated because of a prophecy. It was made before you were born. That is also the reason why your parents went into hiding. The killing curse was reflected because he marked you as his equal, but how could you become his equal when he had so many years ahead in experience. So Voldemort had to disappear for some years that you can grow up, and he can't get more experience. Because you can't learn magic before you are eleven he had to at least disappear for ten years. It wasn't coincident that he tried to come back in your first year or your second year. It was always Fate's plan that he comes back after ten years, that you were able to prevent it was more or less just luck. You were at the right time at the right place and did the right thing."

"If I weren't born my parents would still live?" Harry asked, the guild reflected in his eyes.

"No they would have died unhappy without a child; they only survived this long because Lily got pregnant." Where the sad answer of Harry's ancestor.

"How can you know that?"

Still the sad expression on his face, Ignotus answered. "Dead and Fate told me. They knew you would blame yourself. So they tell me some of the possible outcomes of things that could have happened, had things be different."

"Where there ever a possibility that I could have had a happy life with my Family?" On the one side hoping he could have lived with his parents; on the other hand, he didn't want to know. It would make him feel even worse knowing he could have had a better life.

"Sadly there wasn't. They always would have died, but you got the best version of the events. Had they taken Sirius or Remus as a Secret Keeper you wouldn't have both to help you in the upcoming trials you have to face. With choosing Peter, they saved both of their friend's lives."

The answer Harry received from Ignotus was one of the questions he was asking himself a lot in the last 13 years of his life. Especially in the years he didn't know about Magic and was living in the Cupboard.

Then Ignotus changes the topic. "When you are back in the world of the mortals you should collect the last two Hallows. You already have the cloak. And the Stone is in a Shack in Little Hangleton where the Gaunt's lived, but you have to be careful because Voldemort has there some wards and a curse placed on the ring. The Wand is own by Dumbledore."

"How do you think I can get my hands on them? When I am back, I stay at Hogwarts and the Summer holidays I locked in Privet Drive." Harry asked.

"You will find a way to accomplish the task. You only have to hold the Deathly Hallows ones that you can call them every time back to you. Also when you have everything call me, and only me, with the stone." Ignotus said, waving his hand in a goodbye fashion. "It is time for you to return. Don't forget your Parents are proud of you and I will see you soon again."

Harry faded back to the world of the living, standing near the Tri-Wizard Cup and in front of him was Voldemort and his death eaters lying on the ground.

Flashback end

The encounter Harry had with Ignotus Peverell was one he thought about every day since his return from Hogwarts. It wasn't different from the last four days after his trial. He was mostly sitting in Buckbeak's room with his invisible cloak and some books from the Black Library to avoid the other people that were living at Grimmauld Place. When he wasn't reading, he tried to figure out how he could get his hand on the Deathly Hallows. At least he knew their whereabouts; he just needed a plan to retrieve them.

Harry wasn't sure what he could do with them - now that he had only enough magic to count as a squib and see all the Magical places - but that was a question he could save for the next time he spoke with Ignotus. After he had read the Tale of the Three Brother, he thought it was odd that Ignotus looked so young, because in the tale Ignotus was quite old when he met Death as a friend.

But he would have a chance to ask his ancestor when he didn't get those items first. The stone seems rather easy to retrieve. Wards can be Brocken, and a curse can be countered. He couldn't do it by himself but after he talked with Sirius and Remus - how far they would go for him - he knew both would help him in every way they could, that was at least what they told him. His trust for other people was on low at the moment.

After some serious thought about the order in which he would retrieve the Hallow's, he decided to get the wand first. Because it was harder to get and then he could disappear to a save location - he had still to find. And from there start his next trip to get the stone.

Now how could he get the wand from Dumbledore?

Authors Note: It was kind of hard to explain why Harry was the rightful owner. My first idea was because Lily was also a Peverell, but that got too confusing, so I hope that most of you like my current explanation.

Thank you for the reviews, and I wish everyone who celebrates happy eastern.
