A Different Perspective

Seconds away.

He was seconds away and it would only take him a few steps before he would be as rich as he could ever ask for.

His fingers stroked the key where it rested in his pocket.

He had vowed he would get to this moment and now, staring down at the lock, he allowed himself for one single second to wonder if it had been worth it.

Even now he still saw her face, twisted in disgust as she confronted him and he had admitted to being a thief. Once, she had looked at him so adoringly it had made him forget his nature and fall in love. That day, all he'd seen was loathing. He'd stared unseeingly at her back as she walked away, feeling more lost and broken than he'd ever care to admit.
That day, he had steeled his heart and vowed, to one day pull off a legendary heist- because without her, thievery was all he had left.

Here was that day. Then what?

He took a deep breath, shook the melancholy away and let his lips turn up in a villainous grin.

Without further hesitation he pulled out the key, fitted it in the lock and felt his chest swell in triumph as he heard the telltale click of the lock giving way.
