I own nothing.
—Snape's Quarters—
Severus Snape sat down in his armchair. It was the first day of Hogwarts, and Potter's spawn had come. It was Snape's nightmare. He was a bit more tame than James, he supposed, but he looked exactly like him as well. It was horrible. The added fact that the brat had Lily's eyes, his Lily's beautiful, emerald eyes made it even more unbearable. It was the lunch break, and since Snape didn't feel like eating, he had come down to his quarters to ponder. Harry's life would be ruthless at Hogwarts, he decided. It would be payback for all the things James had done to him. After all, it was only fair.
—The Great Hall—
Snape sat at his normal spot at the staff table. It had been a week since Hogwarts had started, and Harry's presence was driving him mad. The mere sight of him made his blood boil, yet he could not stop looking and Lily's eyes. He seemed to be drawn to them. Today, Snape was quietly observing the brat as he ate. "Ron, will you please wipe your mouth. That's why you have a napkin." The know-it-all, Granger, said.
"That's not your business, besides, who cares? I can just wipe it at the end. It'll get dirty again anyway." The redhead retorted. Potter chuckled.
"I actually agree with Hermione on that one," He gave Weasley a slight, friendly push.
"Hey! Mate, you always side with me, right?" Weasley gave a pleading face to Potter.
"Well, at least Harry has some civilized side of him. But you, Ronald Weasley, eat like a pig!" Granger threw her hands up. "Do I have to mother you every day!"
"Look, Weasley's so poor that even his friends don't side with him!" Draco Malfoy sneered.
"Back off, Malfoy." Potter's voice said menancely.
"Oh! Will Potty go to the weasle's aide! Oh my! How chivalrous!" Draco smirked.
"Try me." Suddenly Harry's eyes shifted, and you could see the fire of determination in his eyes. Snape was taken aback. He almost spilled his water on his robes. He knew that look all too well.
—Flashback—
"C'mon, Sev! It'll be fun!" Lily took his hand and led him to the entrance of the dollar costar. "Are you too scared?" She asked him.
"Me? Scared? No way!" He scoffed. In reality, he was so afraid he was going to pee his pants. "I bet you're scared and you just want someone to go with you."
"Try me." The fire and determination appeared in Lily's eyes. "Try me, Sev."
—Scene Break—
"Hey, Lily! Come on! Don't wast your time on a Slytherin!" Mary, Lily's friend, called out.
"Wait a few minutes, please! This is important!" She called back. Turning around to fave Severus again, she smiled. "Anyway, what were you saying?"
"It doesn't matter. Go with your friend." He sneered. "She's much better than me, according to Potter. I'm sure you would rather spend time with her than with me." With that, he turned away.
"Try me." The same look of determination, the same fire in her eyes.
—Scene Break—
"How could you love him?" It had been a week since the announcement of James and Lily's engagement. "I mean, he's snobby and arrogant. He walk's around like he owns the place and he shoves it down all our noses."
"Well, I love him." All of a sudden, there was Lily, standing in front of him. "And I don't care what you think, Snape." With that, she walked away.
"Mo one could possibly love him. It's impossible." He muttered angrily to himself. Lily spun around.
"Try me." The all-familiar look came back.
—Flashback Ends—
Potter was running down the hallway, clutching a book. It had been a week since the defeat of Voldemort, and since that day, the brat had been holding the book like it was his lifeline. Every day, the brat did something that reminded him of Lily, and it infuriated Snape. "Ten points from Gryffindor for running in the hallway." The brat didn't even look back. "Make that twenty for ignoring the teacher." The boy still didn't look back. "Do you enjoy being the biggest nuisance in the class? I don't think I could possibly take away that many points. You must love getting in trouble." Finally, Potter's spawn looked back.
"Try me." Snape staggered backwards. The eyes were killing him.
"You may go." Then, he realized a photo had fallen from the book that Potter loved. He picked up the picture, and his heart made a leap so uncomfortable that he unconsciously put a hand on his chest. There, in his hand, was a picture of his Lily. Her beautiful, ruby locks were loose and running down her back. She was smiling and laughing. And, in her eyes, Snape could see the blazing, determination of emerald fire. Her mouth, while laughing, formed two words.
"Try me."
