Leaving Oz

Chapter 1

The Journey

(This is kinda short too sorry. I promise it's gonna get longer)

Elphaba shuddered as she anxiously waited for Fiyero to come rescue her in the cold, damp trapdoor. She was so ecstatic that their plan had worked. Right before the witch hunters came to kill her, she put a spell on herself that allowed her to "melt" into nothingness. The "nothingness" was one of the many trapdoors beneath Kiamo Ko. Now the last part of the plan was going to fall into place. Fiyero would come and get her and then they would leave Oz for good. She hugged her knees as a strong, cold whisk of wind passed by.

A few hours came and went. Elphaba had fallen asleep long ago. She was dreaming about what their new home would be like when she felt light shining brightly down on her. She abruptly woke up squinting.

"Elphaba…it's me…Fiyero….I'm here." Fiyero said smiling as he pulled her up out of the trapdoor. "I'm sorry I took so long to get here. I thought it would be too suspicious to come right after….well…you know."

Elphaba just smiled and kissed him. "Well, well it seems that you're not all that brainless anymore my prince. It's alright. I'm just so glad to see you! It seems like I've been down there forever."

Fiyero helped her stand and said, "We should probably go before its daylight." Elphaba nodded in agreement and said, "Before we go, I'm going to go grab the Grimmerie. I need it for the journey out of Oz and I want to try to find a spell to turn you back into a human. I want to see if my green bottle is still here too. I'll be right back."

It only took her a few moments. She came running down the stairs and said breathlessly from running, "Ok…let's go…"

The walked out of Kiamo Ko and into the forest. They walked hand in hand, but kept to the shadows. When they reached a small clearing, Elphaba stopped. She stepped out into the clearing cautiously. After looking around she relaxed and swiftly pulled out the Grimmerie.

She was about to cast a spell, but she sighed and sank to the ground. Fiyero knelt down with her and asked, "What is it?" She looked at him with tears in her eyes and said, "I just wish……*sigh* I wish Glinda could know that we're alive…" she trailed off. Suddenly, she burst into tears. She put her head on Fiyero's straw shoulder. This was a shock to him. He had never seen Elphaba cry. He just rubbed her back soothingly while he rocked her back and forth.

After a while, she settled down. Fiyero looked into her eyes and said, "She can't….no one can…not if we want to be safe." She nodded and he helped her stand back up. She took a deep breath and began to chant a spell; one Fiyero had never heard before. Her chanting was so soft, it was inaudible. The last thing they saw before they left Oz was a bright flash of colorful light.
