(A/N): Sorry this is so short. I'm trying to set up the story so the chapters will probably get longer once I get farther into it. Reviews are much appreciated! Enjoy!

Chapter 1: I've Become So Numb

I, Santana Lopez, am a lesbian. And several months ago, after a long struggle, I came out to my family. My parents, at first, seemed perfectly fine with it; they said they loved me no matter who I love, they seemed completely accepting and supportive. After about a week, that started to fade.

My abuela was more upfront about her disapproval. From the moment I told her about my feelings for Britt, she banned me from her house and shut me out of her life. We haven't spoken since, and after a week or so, I gave up on trying to reach out to her. My parents started becoming distant, clearly keeping their distance so they didn't say something offensive or rude, but also so they didn't have to say anything at all…because they didn't know what to say.

Blaine had been through a similar deal with his family. His dad tried everything he could think of to "turn him straight" including rebuilding an entire car together. When none of that worked, he just completely ignored and denied the fact that his son was gay.

His mom wasn't near as bad as his father had been. She didn't approve per se, but he was her son, and she loved him. She just decided to keep her distance for a while, giving her time to let it all settle in and to give her husband time to cool off…but he never did. Blaine and his father barely speak anymore, unless absolutely needed, and his mother is supportive of him, mainly out of her sense of obligation as a mother.

He was left to defend himself at school, and when the bullies took it too far, his parents finally noticed he was suffering and needed protection. That's when they transferred Blaine to Dalton. Their strict anti-bullying policy was exactly what Blaine needed, he needed a break from being different, for once he would fit in and be accepted no matter what.

Though he was away from the bullies, he still wasn't happy or content, despite how he came off on the outside. He went through a lot of the same things I'm going through now, which is why he noticed when I started talking less, he noticed when I didn't smile as much or when it didn't quite reach my eyes. He noticed when I wasn't completely there mentally, like my mind was wandering. He noticed when I started shutting people out…and made sure that he was the one I kept around.
